The Door Prize Bandit Strikes Again

When I was about 5, I went to the local Shell bulk plant with my dad. We bought our fuel there for all our equipment at the tree nursery where I grew up. They had a toy Shell tanker truck there that they were giving away as a prize, just put your name in. My dad put my name in the box. A couple of days later they called to say I had won it! (I still have it but it needs restored).

That is my first recollection of winning something. A few years later, I went with mom and dad to the local credit union annual meeting (around 1966 I'd say) and won a credit union member ship ($5 share to join, plus $15 dollars in a savings account). Lotta money in 1966.

Over the years, I have won more shirts, jackets, tools, electronics etc than I can ever remember. I'm one of those guys who just always wins door prizes. Sometimes I even feel guilty about it ( but I always get over the guilt...)

Tonight it was the credit union annual meeting again. When I arrived, I sat down at a table and noticed the 6 door prizes were on the table next to me. As soon as I laid eyes on the shop vac, I knew it was going to be mine. When they called my number for it, I didn't even flinch, just waved my ticket with the winning number!!When I walked in with this my wife and daughter just rolled their eyes!!

Looks like your on a winning streak!biggrin Last thing I won was about 10 years ago, 120.00 on a scratch and win. Instead of rolling her eyes I thought she would have said, Good.... now you can vacuum the house. Nice score!

Funny how that works. I've been lucky at that too with the small stuff. My wife is lucky with a little bigger prizes. Won $500 a couple times at contractor's events and a few 50-50 draws plus like you say t shirts and tools. My wife bought a new Safari van in 98 and got her name in a draw. We won a trip to Vancouver, picked up at the house in a limo, taken from the airport to the hotel in a limo, same on the way back, tickets to the Canucks game Wednesday, front row court side tickets to the Grizzlies Thursday night, and the Moscow ballet on Friday night, plus hotel, and a $1000 spending money. It was just like a little honey moon. I'm pretty sure it was a fixed draw though as they had made a little mistake on the order for her van. I also challenged the Home Hardware owner a couple years ago about one of the $500 prizes I had won about 20 years ago as he had encouraged me to make sure I entered their draw. He admitted it was a fix as he said I'm not giving that money away to someone walking in off of the street. It was a nice little help as I was building our present house on the side at that time.

good score Carl, I was looking at them at the Canadian Tire red Thursday Sale. I spent way too much as it was there. 2013 I was given a Heart and Stroke calendar for Christmas. They drew my number about a year ago for $5000. Just a little what goes around, comes around. My dad bought me the Calendar and over the years I have given him my TD visa points to buy new cars

I know the feeling Carl. Sometimes I just know when I'm going to win. Back in '99 I went to a GM "Drive Away" and won a Cadillac lambskin jacket that i still have today.

Must be karma, Carl.  You do plenty of good for other people, it's nice to see you get paid back a little.

Congrats Carl...When I was a kid, I won a pair of Vicegrips at a turkey shoot playing Bingo.

I hate to admit it but that was about 50 years ago and the vice grips are in my tool box to this day.
