Hi, all. Been awhile as things have been pretty good with my '65 Beaumont all-in-all. I've sorted out almost all of my minor issues, but I have a question for you folks. Comparing the '65 Beaumont dash switches ( GTO/Tempest style dash ) and the '65 Malibu dash switches ( different in a LOT of ways ) - I'm hoping to get an answer here on one item in particular. A number of months ago, I bought a reproduction 2-speed wiper switch for a '65 Chevelle, not yet realizing that the dash components have many differences between the two cars. So, I have this new 2-spd wiper switch for a '65 Malibu sitting here, that fits well, grounds well, and looks good - but the connector pins are not the same. There are 3 pins each on both the Malibu and the Beaumont switches - but the new Malibu switch has all 3 pins parallel to each other ( 2 side-by-side and one below centered between those ) - where the Beaumont switch has one pin at 90 degrees to the other 2. My Beaumont female harness connector is a double 90 degree to fit only those 2 opposing-angle pins.
I can easily whip together a small adapter set of 3 wires, but what I need to know is which 3 pins on the Malibu switch go to which 3 females on the Beaumont harness connection. Beaumont switch pins : |_ _ Chevelle switch pins : _ - _
I know that both the Beaumont and Chevelle wiper switches use the same series-of-grounds-only system, and I should mention that trial-and-error hookups with this new wiper switch I've already done, and they won't really help me as I found that there are some other issues to be fixed within my wiper circuit as well. I just want to get this switch in and hooked up correctly as an adaptation, ( one thing done ) before testing the rest of the circuit for the other problems.
I can't read a wiring schematic without going cross-eyed, let alone compare 2 of them, so hoping one of you gurus out there can help me out and just tell me exactly which 3 Chevelle pins match which 3 Beaumont pins on the 2- spd switch for 1965. "Here's hoping". Thanks in advance guys,
Ya that is werid that they changed for 65 chevelle as 64 Beaumoint and Chevelle are the same and the GTO 65 is the same as 64.
Sorry can't help with the wiring..
Brian - Yeah, it gets frustrating. I couldn't even get a '65 Chevelle cigarette lighter I pulled from a parts car to fit my Beaumont socket. Also heard the speedo cable hookup is different between the two cars at the speedo head. We all know that the '65 Chevelle is much easier to get stuff for than the '65 Beaumont - since the Beaumont isn't well known in the USA and was never sold there. That causes some problems for us Beaumont guys because of the differences. Even though they are sister cars, with common sheet metal and many interchangeable parts, there are some annoying differences. Back in the 50s and even the early 60s, Poncho and Chev were more closely related.
Well if you get too frustrated, I am pretty sure I have a 2 speed switch in the garage. It came from a 66 but I can double check as I'm pretty sure they are the same from 64-66.
Carl - thanks kindly. You're always "out there" it seems, with some great info to offer to your fellow Poncho Nuts. I know that this question of mine isn't the world's most difficult automotive question to answer - so I'm feeling optimistic about getting an answer to it. The original switch is really sloppy, making me question the proper grounding in each position.
Jerel - yet another '64-'65 Acadian Beaumont guy - thanks ! I dropped 53 bucks on this Repro Chevelle switch, and the Scot in me wants me to get my money out of it. I'll try to make the Chevelle switch work if I can, but I'll keep your offer in mind as well. Much appreciated.
@ 65Camino...not sure what you mean by "work backwards". I should probably simplify this whole damn thing by just asking if someone out there would have a spare, top-condition 1965 GTO type 2-speed wiper switch that they might want to trade off for my new, never-used, repro 1965 Chevelle / El Camino switch, which I ( unfortunately ) can't use.

I'm not dead sure about the Chevelle switch, but the Beaumont switch is always key-on live and the settings are simply a series of grounds for each function. I did have the Chevelle switch installed and hooked up with a small adaptor harness I made up. Because there's a problem somewhere else in the circuit, I couldn't tell if the way I wired it was correct or not. ( Sometimes the wipers work, sometimes they won't - no matter what switch is in there ). I'll have to sort out the other problem first I guess.
