WHOOHOOO- NEW WIRING HARNESS FINALLY ARRIVED!

I HATED to spend the big bucks ($580 US) but after being persuaded by a buddy that all my work could (along with the garage!) go up in smoke one day, I sprung for a OEM exact duplicate wiring harness for the Delivery. It was fab'd by Narrangansett Reproductions in Rhode Island. These guys are serious "old school' and I thought they might die while my original was in their possession for north of 4 months. Thankfully it got done and is a thing of beauty- all original woven wire with correct colour tracers and fittings. I added a signal light wire which mine never had. I also skipped the extra $240 dash to domelight/taillight harness which I'll do myself out of modern primary wire since it will never be visible. I still have to figure out how to wire in some dome light switches into the doorjambs. The SD's never had that luxury, except possibly on the rear cargo door as there appears to be a rough-in cover plate there. Anyone figured out how to convert the switch on the domelight to make that happen?

Almost done with the final "guide coat' block sanding. TONS of time into this (and 4 gals. of primer) -but I do not want to be that car with the wavy body!!

I'll soon have a link up to my Picassa albums with all the progress pictures. Stay tuned!

I had the same «fear» with them, but the work done is very nice!

Your SD will look definitely better with that kind of wiring.

Fitz.

I decided I am going to replace the harness on my 49 as well.I decided to get one from national chevy association but of course now I am kicking myself for not ordering it 6 months ago as the price has gone from 600.00 cdn to over 800.00 with our crap dollar.Anyways we will see what its like when it arrives

The ones from National Chevy are modern reproductions so it will not look like your original.

yes I know the one from national will just be normal wire not the cloth braided stuff as original but i'm ok with that.More worried about the car not burning to the ground then being absolutely original.

yah- but why pay that kind of money when you can have the real OEM looking stuff for less?
