1967 Pontiac 427 - Canada Track and Traffic - February 1967

From Big Ray, Here you go boys, 49 years ago. For your Friday night reading pleasure. The absolutely only known road test ever done by a automobile magazine of a Canadian Pontiac, The 1967 Grande Parisienne with the Jet Flame 427 CID V8 385 HP. Enjoy !

You have to wonder what ever became of that test car Ray. I have never heard any mention, or ever seen a 427 powered 67 Grand... Let alone one so loaded. 396, yes, but never a loaded 427. Can you say ultra rare? What, 10 made?

Mark, that car seems to me like it was likely a GM executive car that the magazine borrowed for the road test, loaded beyond comprehension. Wouldn't it be nice to know what colour combo it was, interior sure looks to be white or parchment and the redlines and Canadian Poncho wires wheels, how many times would you have ever seen that back in '67 on a GP? I wouldn't argue with your guess of 10 or less built with the 427.

Its been almost 50 years now but I wonder if the Editor Hugh McCall could be tracked down, that would be a good place to start the search for this rare beast.

Geez, I just realized that Hugh is the brother of Bruce McCall, noted author and National Lampoon and Saturday Night Live writer, Bruce was Editor of Track & Traffic in the early 60's. He's still alive at 82 and has a Facebook page so contacting him should be easy enough.

interesting no chrome air cleaner lid or valve covers. That was only on the 2+2 models most likely.

The door panels on a 1967 Grande Parisienne look like they are shared with the 1967 Caprice. What is interesting is white interior, which I don't think was offered on the Caprice.

As far as I know there were no chrome engine dress-up items on the 427 on Canadian Pontiacs, even on the 2+2. On the Chevrolets they had a different engine code for the SS427, probably because they were treated separately due to the chrome on the engine assembly. I would expect the same engine code on that G.P. as on any other Pontiac or full-size Chevrolet with an L36 (except for the SS427).

On the 1967 Canadian Pontiacs, there was only one way to get chrome valve covers. You had to buy a 427 2+2. All the rest were painted. GM won't have sold many of those covers that year!
