Best place to take car for a Frame Swap on 1965 Parisienne - Alberta

Hey guys...just seeing if anyone had any recommendations for someone or some shop to do a frame swap on a 1965 Parisienne?

Already have the new powder coated frame. Looking for someone that can do the swap. Preferably before June.

Let me know or message me with names/numbers if you can. Thanks!

I am located outside Edmonton, Alberta.

Is the new frame complete with suspension, steering, brakes, brake & fuel lines, etc?   That will determine how long it takes to do the swap.

I did something similar a couple years ago, take a look at this post, starting at page 3:

going to be costly !!!! I would swap over the suspension to get the chassis as a "roller" !!! Unless you've got deep pockets for door rate at a shop!!! loosen everything off you can to cut the labour charges ie body mounts. steering & brakes, frt. fenders & hood if need be, all electrical so it's just a body swap on hoist???

I recommend replacing many of the wear items while doing the swap.  That'd include all the bushings & steering components.

I agree.  The cost will depend so much on what you want done and what kind of shape the frame and project body are in. If you want a shop to to take your project car as it is and the donor frame, do all the disassembly, rebuild and reassembly work on both body and frame and then deliver you a running car, it will be cost quite a bit more than your car will be worth (unless maybe it is a 409 4 speed car)  If you will do all the disassembly rebuilding and re-assembly and only want a bare body swapped from one frame to another i'd say maybe $500.00.  ( That's maybe a couple hours work for a well equipped shop) So theres the range.

My opinion for what its worth.

I know here in Toronto you wouldn't be able to get any shop to do this work, its just too time consuming and labour intensive and ties up a bay or two for a very long time taking money away from other more productive jobs. Look at Clint's thread, it took him over 4 months to get the frames swapped and ready. My advice to young guys I meet who want a old car is simply this: if you can't work on an old car yourself, then don't get one, unless you're a millionaire then go have fun.

My experience with this is a guy I knew had a hearse and ambulance and he wanted to build the ambulance like new, the hearse of course had less than 20,000 miles so he found a body shop in Toronto who agreed to do the swap over between cars. The initial payment was $15,000 and that was three years ago, cars still sitting in body shop. A productive shop can't blow-away regular work to do it in any decent amount of time. Leads to dissatisfaction and arguments.

The best advice I've seen on this forum!

Thanks for the advice...this car is not mine but my 68 year old fathers car. He had the exact car when he was young and finally was able to purchase his dream car....unfortunately, this car was bought sight unseen and was severely mis-represented by the previous owner. I know buying sight unseen is risky so no need to provide any 'I told You So' comments.

I work on all my old vehicles but unfortunately don't have the time to do this frame swap for my dad with 2 small kids, full time job and full time ranch. I was merely trying to see if anyone was willing to provide me with names of people or shops that could do the swap. I am already aware that the price will be cost prohibitive but I feel terrible for my dad and was hoping to help find a place to get his car done. He is not in great health and and I want him to be able to enjoy his car before his health declines further.

I am sure you could get a work party together of fellows CP'ers, great bunch of guys in Alberta to help get this done, I hear they work for steak and beer.

Give Lorne at Aerotique Corp near Gibbons AB a try at 780-942-2210.  He may be able to help you.  He's got a large yard of cars, plus a shop.  He's worth a try.

If you are willing to make the trip down to Calgary, try Byron at Alternative Restorations.  403-254-2171  They're on an acreage just south of Calgary.
