When they tore the old siding off our house, there was a bunch of newspaper with columns about the 2nd. world war and other stuff. It's too bad the paper was so brittle that a lot of it just crumbled in my hands.

My brother-in-law work for General Electric, in Montréal-Est, for almost three décades. He saw a lot of kitchen stoves and refrigerators.
The plant is now close.
Frigidaire refrigerators were produced at a big plant on Eglinton Avenue in Scarborough along what was known as "The Golden Mile". There was lots of manufacturing after the war along that stretch. Later the plant became the Scarborough Van Plant. GM shut it down in 1992. Now it is a huge parking lot with mall properties spread out all over it.
When my parents finally moved out of their house back in 2007, they left behind an old basement fridge, a Leonard, that was manufactured in Dundas, Ontario. It still worked like a charm but it weighed a ton or so and needed defrosting periodically. I also remember the old General Electric stove with pushbuttons that my parents bought back in the 1950s, replaced in the mid-70s by another make, Enterprise, that was manufactured in New Brunswick I think. GE used to have a factory along the QEW close to the Ford Oakville plant. Today only the facade is left.
Our appliances today are Kitchen Aid, but I doubt they were made in this country. The washer & dryer were from Sears, but really they are LG from South Korea.

Speaking of home appliances, our everyday use Frigidaire kitchen stove that I bought 50$ ten years ago on Kijiji is a General Motors. I don't know when it was built, but I say it's a 1958 model because of the twin knobs that look like the new twin headlamps of the Chevys
