Hello all. I have seen oil bath air cleaners before but this one has me a bit stumped. I'm not convinced its a true oil bath style. I can't see where it would come apart to service the straw like filter medium or add oil. Anyone shed some light on this beast for me. U have attached two photos. Thanks!
It looks like you're missing the bottom pan. I believe the oil should sit in the bottom pan, which overlaps the upper part in such a way that the air flows downward and turns upwards at the bottom as it flows towards the carb level, theoretically allowing the oil to trap the particulate in the airflow that continues on the straight line downwards.
Here's a pic from the '58 Brochure, but I believe it should be the same or similar to the '60.
That would be awesome if you are willing to part with a base. Provide me with a price and email address and I can etransfer you cash. I'll email you my address as well. Thanks!
I thought the last year for an oil bath was 58. After that, no room under the hood for anything that tall?

As the knowledgeable members on this board have said, you are missing the base. Is the bracket from the manifold that sticks out in place? That is how the bottom of the air cleaner mounts. The stud on the bottom of your air cleaner you have goes through the base and through the hole in the bracket. I am located in Calgary and went through my 1960 Strato-Chief completely. I believe I also have a base. I am away all next week, when I return I will contact you via private message. Maybe we can get together to discuss your car.
