Hood release

Hi all, no matter how hard I pull the hood release the hood never pops up. I have to get something down the gap between the hood and fender and hook it open. Mechanism seems ok and is lubricated. Any ideas what's wrong? Thanks Ian (u.k.)

Is the spring there that pushes the hood up when you pull the lever? It sounds like it's missing.

I remember 67rag396 had the same problem, maybe not to the same extent though.  He also had to put something down the side of the hood to pull it up.

Hopefully it won't be long before a member here with a 67 posts a picture of what you are looking for. And maybe someone has a a parts car and will sell you a spring.

Sounds like it's time to look at an exploded view diagram.

Can anyone send me a pic of the spring I need? I don't ever remember seeing it! Or has anyone got an exploded view diagram like seventy2plus2 suggests? Orkney where I can find one?

I've done an 'image search' on Google but can't find anything.

Thanks for your time guys,

Ian

Hood latch for 67 GTO.I think it should be similar to your car.

Large pilot bolt spring and another smaller spring in the hook portion.

Could also be you may need to adjust your pilot bolt length,or the cable needs some slack removed.

I will take a look at my 67 Parisienne tonight (currently at work). I am sure it has a V shaped "spring" to pop the hood up enough to grab it after its released.

They look different, probably do the same job provided yours has the same mount points. If you look here at Frank's Pontiac Parts about 2/3 down in the fullsize 67-70's they have a set for a 67. Those look like mine.
