Saturday morning drive with a few issues.

Took the old gal out for a good spin yesterday to a retro diner  on the side  of highway 2. It's running great aside from a fuel issue under load and a heater core leak.  I'm thinking pump or strainer sock in tank is plugged up. The heater core started to hemorrhage after a good cooling system flush and new waterpump ( Thanks to this forum and especially (seventy2plus2) for the water pump.) I have just bypassed it for now.  I can't expect a flawless fuel or cooling system after sitting for 42 years:) I'll drop the tank and pull the heater core out next week. It's sure an education sourcing parts For these old machines!

I'd recommend a recore on heater, reproduction can be hit or miss. Find a good local shop.

Car looks right at home in front of the diner.

Glad the water pump worked out.  I'm sure the remainder of the small problems won't take long to resolve.

Ya, you have to watch if you order a new one. Even if you order '60 Impala (non-AC) they have some screwy sizing out there!

Reminds me of a diner in Ontario on Hwy 10 outside of Shelburne. This one looks nicer.

Sludge in fuel tank - 42 years, ya think? Yah, you got sludge, big time - will lead to problem like you had (did the same for me).

If you have a radiator shop that does good work near you, they can boil it and coat it (I had mine done for $130 US) or, you can but a brand new one for about that (check Rockauto.com).

Well, interestingly enough, I pulled the sending unit out (didn't have to drop the tank which was a nice surprise) and the pickup sock/filter is as clean as an operating table. No restriction whatsoever! Given it has new filter and carb kit, only remaining culprit is the pump which should be here before the weekend. I'm replacing the entire pickup sending unit as well while I'm at it. Thanks for the tips on heater core guys!
