Try asking the idiots at the parts counter for a 235 set instead. would be the same, and is chevrolet, so they might actually know what a chevy is rather than a canadian pontiac.

Rene (57 Pathfinder), is 100% right. The 261 head gasket is different from the 235 head gasket, everything else is exactly the same between the two engines. You can use the 235 head gasket because it will fit but it will OVER HEAT, the 261 needs the steam holes to transfer the heat from the head into the block. Some guys will say that it makes no difference that the 235 gasket will work but it is a ton of needless work if it does not work for you. Why take the chance. Cheers. George

Ya, just look everything up on rockauto first, write down all the part #s, then go back to the store. That seems to be the only way to get parts locally these days
good to know about the 261 head difference for sure.

Do that for everything you buy, Rockauto has great pics and part numbers for most things.
Since the 261 is a truck motor, why not ask for parts for it? Just figure out which truck its in (I don't know my 261's but I think they were in Chevy trucks from 55-say 62?) and have the genius' look up that part. Most places don't have a Canadian Pontiac in their system.
