51 Pontiac Silver Streak rear motor mounts

Hi there....I just about finished my 12 volt conversion. still have to sort out my gas gauge. I installed the voltage reducer as I did on the temp gauge but it now reads empty, oh well when I find time I will get out the old ohm meter and start from the tank back. While doing the points I noticed a lot of teeter totter movement in the points plate, turns out it had been worked on in the past and put back together wrong and missing a spring washer so I replaced that and she runs smoother now. My dilemma now is that the motor moves very abruptly to the drivers side when I give it a lot of gas. After crawling around under the car I found both rear motor mounts have broken. I called around to the parts places near me with no luck for a replacement set. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I might be able to get a set this week. It would really make my day if you can. Well time to get back to work on the car I have some things to tidy up.   thanks in advance

The one's on my 239 were the carry-overs from the 40's like this:

https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail/7355/Chevrolet_Motor_Mount_Rear_Except_Cabriolet_M_Shaped.html

They used them on the Chevys as well.

Here's another style also available from the previous supplier.

https://www.nationalchevyassoc.com/1949_1951_side_engine_mount_for_powerglide_or_standard_transmission_5105-1

There's another type used on US production cars which you can see on:

www.PontiacParts.net

Hope that helps.

Thanks 50sedandelivery for the reply..........I just got back from Guelph Ont., I found a shop there that deals with early Pontiac parts and he had 2 brand new ones in stock so I bought them. But still thanks for your help, good luck with your restoration, don't loose your patients during the process it will be worth it in the end.

P.S. the gas gauge now works, it was the ground wire from the voltage reducing board had popped off.

Glad you were able to locate some. Should smooth out the ride a little!

I'm almost ready for paint - can't wait!!IMG_2028.JPG

I didn't mean to hi-jack this thread. It seems like I should start my own- which I'll do shortly as I go into the paint stage.
I'll be using Tarragon Green below the belt line and San Pedro Ivory for the top portion including a sun visor. The OEM color was Tarragon all over.
I've managed to get Acrylic Lacquer which will look like the original and is forgiving enough as it can be polished out.

hey 50sedandelivery..........no problem, its always great to see someone else restoring instead of parting out these old classics. Nice choice on the paint combo as well.

Thanks- I'm just trying to get it back on the road while they'll still give me a driver's license! I've had the car 41 years and used to drive it around T.O.in the 70's!
Now I'm the one whose 70!
BTW- the trim piece you're looking for, is it the belt line stainless piece that's about 1 1/8" and is a continuation of the windshield trim? If so I have one (off a 4 dr.) I can bring up in July. I couldn't tell from your picture to Jimmy.

hi Murray.......you are not alone, I will be 71 in Sept and still luv crawling around under these beautiful works of art. My first car was a 1951 the same as I am driving now but it was dark green ,had racing slicks (bald tires) and a steering lock problem on a tight left hander that required a lot of body weight to release it before you went into a "U" turn. Those were the days.

In regards to your question, yes it's the piece that runs from the front windshield along the top of the front door skin just below the window opening to the rear of the door above the handle. I will include another pic of the car. I know the plat says BRN FIND but the pop rivets that hold it on look cheesy.CIMG1679.JPG

Unfortunately I did this, pic 2 to 4, backing into the garage but managed to bump it back out with a rubber mallet rather than my body hammer, it leaves less flat spots on a curved body, leveled it, primed and painted and she looks as new. CIMG1679.JPG

Not sure if you have checked but I live in Ontario Canada, kind of a long drive for you, but thanks for the offer anyhow.

Yes- Ont., know it well!
I'm coming up to Toronto for my granddaughter's wedding July5-10.

If you, OR ANYONE ELSE, needs something from the US and it can fit in my suitcase I can bring it up "duty-free".

I'll PM you a picture of the trim. Is it D.S. or P.S. you need. Yours looks fine in the pics. Those trims are all stainless and can be bumped out, filed and re-polished to perfection.

sounds good.....mine is the drivers side, I was told that stainless could be repaired but have never tried it, I just finished a course on gas welding alum and that's where I heard about it. The guy that used to own my car must have had problems with the trim and found it easier just to pop rivet it back on.

Hi Murray and Bob

Thanks for sharing your experiences and your misfortune Bob,  U both have some really nice projects.  Murray I am intrigued by the little red coaster cart with the white wheels and tractor seat.

It is really neat when you view these threads and look behind or beside the story line  to see the real character who works on the projects, a special tool for comfort.   I like it.

I to had the same issue of broken motor mounts. I had a thread several months ago concerned about the center rad return broken with lots of solder, it was obvious the previous owner had problems but did not deal with the root of the problem, which in my opinion is  engine twisting due to broken motor mounts.   My solution is by no means OEM , but I am facing reality and I am putting this car together for my wife never, OMG that is a big word,  to have issues with the obvious, I made two side engine mount using a polyurethane bushing.  See the photo below.

Murray, your Sedan Delivery looks awesome.

Regard

Hey Dale:
I wish I could take credit for the tractor seat dolly but they sell them here at the local discount tool stores.
www.harborfreight.com/rolling-work-seat-with-tool-tray-62241.html
Those motor mounts look cool- good call!
My SD is pouting in the corner right now as a '54 Chevy 5-window p.u. followed me home recently! It's all mechanically restored and drives great- just needs the body & paint done. Can I keep her Mom- pleeeeease!
Mom: Welllll- I guess so....... as long as your get The Indian painted soon!
Me:Swell- thanks Mom!

thanks for the link Murray, I'll have to look into that. I have the pneumatic lift seat with the four casters, it's alright, but I find it takes very little dirt to make it tipsy.
Only so much time to work on project, then you still have to find time to drive them, have fun and enjoy.
I like the way you conversed with your wife , and I agree that It is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission up front.

Dale
