So many cars, so little time

Well I continue to run into problems with my 56 CanPon BBC motored hotrod (yah I will finish it, but it is an ongoing struggle), and since the previous deal with the 40 Ford Deluxe Coupe (is there any more iconic hot rod in the world? except for a 32 Ford roadster, which my 6' 200 lb. body would not fit into anyway) fell through, and since my wife got her $35K+ pool out of that aborted deal and I got nothing, and since there are SO MANY cars that I want and time is running out, and I really want something to drive NOW or at least something marvelous to follow when the 56 is done ...

Seeing the Psycho Too on here (sweet, but ... $85k?!?! I think not) I have since found a Florida (1/2 hour up the road) 62 Nova AWB BBC w/ Hilborn FI (gawd, who doesn't love those big stacks sticking up out of the hood!) that is affordable, and another 40 dlx coupe (with white button tuft interior I almost creamed my jeans! but the mechanicals are really sad and it is in TX), and a 65 Buick Gran Sport (also TX) with factory 2X4 and A/C and those to-die-for clamshell headlights, and a 70 Nova 2dr post (Tampa FL) w/ 427 tubbed w/ MT 31x18.5's ...

Of the 4, the Riv is the best. Classic, timeless, get in and go. Always turns heads wherever you go.
The Gasser is super cool but not practical at all, unless you have a drag strip out your back door.
The Forty, I love 40' Fords, but this one just isn't right. Sits wrong, and as you say questionable mechanicals, will be a project, you already have one.
The Nova, too 90's, would need a makeover. Needs some chrome and something other than a pastel 90's colour.

You'll know the "one" when you see it.

Drive the nova first......not to be dismissed out of hand....

4 completely different tastes and looks.....gasser is a nice display piece unless you live on a dragstrip.

I sold an extremely nice pete jackson with wet nitrous setup due to usability to fund the present Fuel injection setup. Wish I hadn't though.....what a cool piece that was...

Well the Altered Wheel Base (like some of the first Funny Cars) Nova is street licensed
nova3.jpg

and it does have an interior (sort of)
nova2.jpg

and there are baffles in the exhaust, so I could drive it on the street OK, I think ... it is closest so I am going to go look at it Saturday ...

There is something about it being kind of outrageous, to drive to car shows or the hardware store, that attracts me ...

Yah I agree the good old mechanical FI would be nasty on the street, but I think the mods he has made should take care of that

So are there no safety inspection/vehicle compliance laws in Florida?  I'm thinking one would have a hard time licensing that car for the road up here, unless the inspector became 'creative' with the inspection after you slipped him a few bills.

I say buy what makes you happy.  You presented a really diverse list of cars, from a stock-looking Riv to a Ford coupe to a gasser to a pro street car.  It's like comparing apples to oranges to carrots to steak - none of them really have anything in common with the other - pick the flavor that you are in the mood for, I guess...

I really want the whole meal biggrin but I have to take one course at a time, I guess ...

No vehicle inspection in Florida - notice the license plates on the car now?

I will see it and talk to the guy this weekend.

Life's short - eat as much as you can!  biggrin

Up here, in my province, antique plates require a loose inspection, but only once when it's registered.  However there are restrictions on when/where/how much you can drive it.  Sounds like it's easier in Fla.

Good luck!

Go to local rental outlet and rent a muscle car convertible    Then go home and work on the 56

Well, I came to the same conclusion. However:

1. The Rivera was in Texas, and was priced $7500 more than my budget (yes I know price can be negotiated but the gap was pretty large)

2. I REALLY liked the 65 gasser, went to see it, but it needed way more than just header baffles to make it streetable - DOT rear tires, windshield wipers, horn, emergency brake (all required by Florida laws) and a swing-out bar on the drivers side of the roll cage so I could get my fat butt in. Any one or two of those would have been doable but in total, they made it another project car, and I already have one of those.

3. Yeah, the stance of the 40 bothered me too - would need a dropped front axle ($500+) and different tires, and probably all kinds of other stuff, again, don't need another project car.

4. And yeah, that yellow Nova was just too yesterday.

BUT! I am scoping out a nice red 58 Bel Air, about 3 hours away and not far from my wife's favorite restaurant - check it out:

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t62204254/anything-to-check-on-a-58-x-frame-car/

Eventually it would need A/C, and it has a boring 350/350, but I do like its looks and the white tuck-and-roll interior (trunk too!) gives me a stiffie. I could see me cruising in it while finishing my 56.

Dave

The 58 is cool. Nice early 60's style cruiser. As long as it's solid or solid enough. And the rear end bushings are in good shape, especially that upper.
