I need to measure my garage first. I'd feel really weird if you guys bought the car though. Maybe we could do this through site donations? I could purchase the car through the business and use it to promote the site. I dunno. I still feel kind of weird about it.

Todd, I missed this one- I live in Whitecourt and can have a look at the car. I have sent a reply to the ad asking to meet and see it. JC 2+2, John, twigged me to the ad.

Would look good with you sitting in the drivers seat.

Fred

Fred, if you are close to the car by all means take a look but don't go too far out of your way.

Thanks!

No sweat, Todd. I talked to the owner  a few minutes ago and will go look at the car tomorrow eve. Only a couple of miles away.

He has had the car for about a year and bought it from a person whose Grandpa bought it new.

I'll take pics and send you a report on its condition.

All you guys who want to see Todd get this timepiece, start ponying up and figure out a way we can do this. I will work as your agent but, we have to have a plan how to make this work. You guys around Edmonton , help me with this. Full report tomorrow.

Fred

Thanks,57 Pathfinder for your support. I did not mean only us Edmonton area members should carry the load. Just that we are the closest to the target. Everyone on the Can Poncho rolls can help with this project and depending on the final cost of this gesture and it would not cost each of us a lot in any case if enough of us respond.

I just meant we could help out on transportation etc. if the deal goes through.

It's like Red Green said, "We're all in this together!"

News later.

Fred

Have a look at the pin stripe on the car and see if it's stuck or painted on. Thanks! Also check out the nose cone for any cracks and the frame-esp behind the front wheels. I'm hoping that's original paint and it doesn't need to be redone. Looks kind of dull but if it were still without any major marks I suppose it could be clear coated.

Double checked my garage size and it's 18 feet long. Now here is a car that might fit and I really like as well especially since it's a 2 door sedan and a survivor: a 64 Laurentian with 32000 miles

Owner  seems a bit grumpy. When I inquired about a price his reply was "It's appraised at $8000 and I'm not going to let it go for some bargain basement price"

6 cyl/auto.

I couldn't find any official length measurements however a 64 Impala is 17.5 feet long.

Oh how I want thee! biggrin

Too bad as I know you would love to get into another '69.

Well, my offer of $50 still stands if you find something else that would work for you.  Would be great to see an official CP car.

That 64 is beautiful.

And I'm in for a donation too.

Car was bought from a guy whose Grandpa willed it to him - has sat outside for a long time.Mechanically it seems to run ok. Starts good and runs quiet. Owner has not run it enough to determine if it uses oil. No smoke observed. Engine 350 cid 2v - trans TH 350. PS PB. Drum brakes work good .

Nosepiece looks good, no signs of collision damage except ding in rear bumper. Glass is good clear glass all around.

Interior side panels and armrests good, rear seatback  has water and sun damage [ripped open both sides on top]. Front seat back worn through on Driver's side,,cushions good. Carpet and belts like new. Has original GM floor mats, good condition.

Needs package shelf due to water damage. Like all these old girls, rear window leaked after sitting outside for so long. Dash pad badly cracked - needs replacement.

Paint badly weathered and sun scalded in places.

From what I could see, frame has no rust. Lower rear quarters behind wheels have had repairs long ago [plastic ,not well done . need cut out and replaced] 2 rust holes in trunk floor over frame mounts- usual place. Can be patched. Not sure what mounts are like. Couldn't see under carpets what floor condition was.DSC_4097.JPGDSC_4098.JPGDSC_4099.JPGDSC_4100.JPGDSC_4101.JPGDSC_4102.JPGDSC_4103.JPGDSC_4106.JPG

Some rust on lower lip of one front fender - easily patched.

Pin stripe appears to be painted, side bumper strip is stick-on and has part missing on right front fender.

Looking at a lot of work on this unit, Buddy. From my experience on my own car, we are talking $10G repair bill, most of which would be body repair and paint.

The owner had a call from another interested party while I was there who will be looking at the car today so, car may be gone soon anyway.

Phone # for owner 1-780-706-9436 if you wish to contact.

Todd, even if you had to pay the asking price, you are still ahead of the '69 I looked at. I like this '64.

Thanks SO MUCH for looking at the Strato Chief Fred. It needs a bit more work than I feel like doing at this point. I really like the '64 but 8 grand might as well be 8 million at this point. Still, I'm going to see what I can come up with. I know at least one other member is hot on it. Maybe I'll sell the chickens.. biggrin

I hope that "other member" is the member who is a regular part of this forum and needs to get a Canadian Pontiac instead of those other foreign cars he owns..... (Made by GM but not Canadian Pontiacs.)

Todd, chickens are good, they can get a fella through the hard times. Takes a long time to eat a car with very little nourishment.

You are welcome for the inspection - got me out of the house .  It would be a lot of work and expense to do anything with that car to even make it a daily driver. There are still some '69s out there and as the guys say, we need an official "Canadian Poncho". I'm willing to kick in a donation just like a lot of other guys in the group. Just got to get a LOT of guys to kick in a LITTLE of the coin of the realm, then it's not a problem. [That's a hint to some of the members in name only] Thanks for setting the site up and maintaining it. Also, a tip of the hat to all you guys who have stepped up to the plate already!

Fred

Get a "grant" from the PEI government for a new chicken barn and make it 24 feet long and get enough to buy a nice chicken hauler

Call  Mike Duffy    he's a neighbor of yours,  and good at getting government money

I called the owner of the '69 Strat to tell him you were not interested in the car and he told me the guy who came to look at it Friday [an older guy] thought it was great and loaded it on his trailer and boogied off down the highway. Good luck to him.
