I am really trying to stave off the urge to 'upgrade' my 1964 Beaumont SD, but am not being successful - I just can't resist. I look at the GTO dashes (which appear identical to mine) and I see the tachometer option, and a new reproduction tach is made that looks identical to original 1964 (different than 1965) GTO tachometers, and I REALLY want one (will replace the clock) - was a tachometer a factory option for 1964 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe?

Even though it would be 'upgraded' I do want to keep the car as close to factory as possible.

P.S. How much hassle is it to remove the factory gauge cluster?

hardest thing I found was removing heater control knobs need small hands speedo cable hard to unscrew good luck

pretty hard wires get in the way and new tach casing is paper thin I has to hot glue mine together to strengthen when bolting to cluster maybe little guy can slide under dash but not me lol

I have to do this job . Don't suppose you remember what size of screws you need to use? I bought a clock but the screws did not go with it. Any other tips on making the job easier?
Here is a couple pictures of the back of your dash bezel the clock mounts beside the radio with the four 1/4" hex head screws, the tach gets put back with same four screws. A good bit of light and as Brian says a screw driver with a socket on end of it and maybe a swivel too.

Here are (2) pictures.The screw is 1/4 head and tread is 3/8in.Other is tool as I use it and to hold screww in I just put a bit of grease on head to hold in socket.
Thanks for the info , my car is a 66 and when I bought it there was a none working tach in it . Turns out the tach was not hooked up and only glued in place . I have bought a correct clock for a 66 and now need to get it in. I think the clocks were also all about the same (64-67).
