67 Parisienne no instrument lights

Was working fine now it's not and it blows the 4 amp fuse every time I replace it?? Do the headlight switches go bad and do this??

Also would the headlight switch be the same as the impala? Or is it a Catalina part?

Don't know about your '67 but...

... I remember that on my father's 64 Safari (when new), if the instrument panel lights goes off, the rear taillamps were off also.

I was riding with the IP lights off just for fun till a police officer flag me because the rear taillamps didn't work.

I changed the fuse and made fun of something else!

I have the switch out and I can see the one end of the rehistat (??) big coiled spring is broke at one end Where it should be connected to the rivit That should explain the problem right? New switch new fuse all fixed??

The tailights work just fine. Just pops the fuse and I lose the lights to instruments. Like I said the spring is broke at the one rivet Wonder if it was wadding up and touching were it shouldn't ?? Can't believe I only got 50 years of good service out of the headlight switch!!! Lol

I believe you've got it figured out. That rheostat winding is most likely shorting to ground. As far as compatiblility with Impala, there's a good chance. GM light switches seem pretty universal. It's those ignition switches that are more unique to model. But I'm sure a guru will pipe in with a positive yes or no.

Well guess what? The switch is fine! Turns out the wire that feeds the little light in the old am radio came loose and shorted out to the radios steel frame! Fixed that and problem solved!

Does anyone have a picture of the proper end for the wire that feeds the lights in the top of the radio? Mine was cut and swinging in the breeze... Till it welded its self to the side of the radios steel frame!! Then I could find an end and reach up and plug it in its rightful spot.
