1986 Pontiac GrandPrix 2+2 Aerocoupe Rare GM owned

Very nice with 110,000 km. Owned since 2002 and garage kept. A great deal of work has been done and I have put a little over 1,100km since. Asking price is 8,00.00 OBO. Almost rust free with great floors, trunk pan and body. Does need paint. Check Kijij ad 1191394418 for more detail and pictures. As the ad says drive it home.Paul 705-288-0990. Also have a 2nd driving rotten second one if you need parts for $2,500.00 or both for $10,00.00

Only 1,225 Pontiac Aerocoupes were built in 1986 and comes with GM documentation stating it to be 1 of 111 to Canada making it a very RARE car.I have owned it since 2002 and has always been garaged.Repairs done recently such as new rotors, new wheel bearings and seals both sides, calipers, rear wheel cylinders, brake fluid flush, exhaust from Cat back, front shocks, heat riser valve, heat stove and hose, heater core, new antifreeze, AC compressor and evaporator, gas tank cleaning, new fuel filter, new electric choke, spark plugs, positive battery cable.Comes with all books and warranty registration when bought new as well as the GM service and parts manuals.Buy and drive away. This car requires new paint, is virtually rust free ,oiled yearly, mechanics done and would be perfect for a automotive painter. This car was first licensed to GM then sold to the second owner as new through a local GM dealer.I have that bill of sale also.

Built in Ste. Thérèse! I saw one brand new in the showroom at Foster Pontiac-Buick on Sheppard Avenue in Toronto, and may have later seen the same car adjacent to where I worked at Birchmount & Danforth in the late 80s. Pretty scarce car, sharing the rear window with the Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe (you don't want to replace the glass or find replacement for the trunk weatherstripping for the either the Aero SS or 2+2).

I remember looking at a new 1984 Grand Prix at a dealer in Atlanta and being surprised that it was built in Ste. Thérèse.

GM made some respectable G-body cars in the 80s.

Normally impeccable in facts  this is an occasion where Cam is off a bit. The 2+2 had a much more aggressive rear window and none of these window parts were shared with the Monte Carlo Aero Coupe.

I can't get over how horribly cluttered GM made engine compartments in that era - A/C hoses and pieces running everywhere as shown in the ad pics:

aero.JPG

Didn't have to be like that. In fact, previously it wasn't, as seen by this 67 Corvette factory air:

Another of a long list of peeves I have about the designers and engineers (and, I suppose, "marketers") of some cars ...

I knew the trunk lids were different, but the low-volume rear window as well?

Thanks for setting the record straight.  Facts are good! I'm man enough to eat crow. Pass the hot sauce wink

I would have lost that bet too, but the GM parts book confirms it!

This car belongs to Taylor55's good friend, Paul. I spoke to the owner at length at Autofest a few years back, very knowledgeable and nice man. He had a 70 Camaro SS 350 at Autofest that was properly restored and told me about these 2+2 cars he had.

I have stored the aerocoupe for Paul in my shop during the winter. The car was in a minor fender bender years ago and all parts were replaced with new GM parts because of the uniquiness of the car the insurance adjuster did not even require a search for used parts. The car was painted from the stripe up and the bottom section is still the original paint. This fact can be verified by the body shop owner who did the work .The silver paint is very faded and cannot be buffed out that is why the car needs paint to be really nice although it is acceptable as is. Paul is an excellent mechanic and owns a couple of 1970 1/2  Camaros. He showed his 70   SS RS for the first time this summer at the Camaro Nationals in southern ontario and came home with 3 awards in three sections.

I have driven the aerocoupe and it is surprisingly petty for a 305. The car is tight and gets excellent fuel economy with the 200r4 overdrive transmission. Fly into Timinns and drive it home anywhere. The car can be used as a daily driver as is or a nice fresh coat of paint and it can be a weekend car show car.

The car only sports the original paint from the stripes down from the doors to the back of the car. In the 90's as Taylor 55 says it was in a front end  collision. All parts used were all new GM and the rest of the car was not touched. The car was repainted to make it all match as it was back then. Thanks for all the great info and comments to all on this site.

GM engine compartments were dealing with a lot more emission hardware than in 1967.

You are correct about the info so do not remove the post and the parts car is still for sale.

Had he mentioned a price like that when I emailed him I definitely would have been interested. At the time all he had was the $22000.00 appraised value.
