1957 Pontiac 283 engine with Pontiac valve covers

I have a Canadian 283 with the Pontiac script valve covers that I'm never going to do anything with. Any ideas on what it's worth?

Thanks

Joe

Depending on condition and completeness $300.00 - $1000.00.

I'd like to see it, but you are in Montana.cry

The embossed Pontiac valve covers are the unique item, the 283 is worth what a 283 is worth.

I sold a set last year for $200 with half going to site.

The value of the engine has many veriables. Was it runnung when pulled, 2 or 4 barrel carb, does it have a spin on oil filter or a remote is it complete with air cleaner ? There is not a huge market for 283 engines and in my opinion the valve covers are the most valuable parts. Is the paint on the engine green or was it repainted chevy orange. To someone restoring a 57 Canadian Pontiac convertible that needs an original 283 it is worth more than to someone who just wants a 283 for nostalgic purposes.  I had one original pontiac valve cover with the script and staggered bolt holes and I donated to a person that has a collection of old valve covers and restores them beautifully. I was happy to give it him as he is an Americian and really needed that valve cover to complete his small block GM collection. Good luck with the engine sale and I hope it finds a new home in a Canadian built Pontiac.

Here is a nicely restored version. The green paint looks to be a bit darker than what was used originally but very nicely done nonetheless.

I'll have to go thru my stuff but I think I have everything for the long block it has been tore down and when I got it it had a new set of pistons, rings and bearing that came with it. I think I have the carb and air cleaner, also it is still the Pontiac green.

Could you take a photo of the engine so we can see the colour of it, hoping it is original paint.
