Mystery Side Marker

So I stumbled across this, and I can't figure out what it's for.  Here's what it's not:

- It's not a marker for a side-trim car, as those have provisions on one side for the trim.  That rules out all US cars except wagons, since they all had trim

- It's not a US wagon piece, as those were round up front and square at the back

- It's not a Canadian 2+2 piece, as those were round on the ends.  I -assume- but do not know that Strato Chief is the same as the 2+2

So it doesn't seem to be from anything!  Any ideas?

I'm thinking a courtesy light inside a car - possibly dome light but more likely elsewhere inside (door? lower rear side?).

If it's factory...I would think there should be some numbers inside the pieces.

Exact same size, light, backing, and everything but the bezel as a 2+2 side marker. But squared off.

Well I couldn't take the suspense, so for the $50 I actually bought the thing just because I've never seen another. So I'll likely never need it also, but... must solve mystery, and maybe there are part numbes on it!

Still no factory application I can find, but North pointed out that it might have been used on Ambulances and so on, and sure enough, a little Googling and there's one. Can't say it's the only application, but it's one of them. Sorta weird that the Canadian 2+2 had to come up with a special part when there was a part in inventory that would have worked for the trimless side markers...
