If this could be converted for a floor shift 68 Parisienne, then I'll take it.

Anybody converted one of these before (column to floor) ?

Done it numerous times starting with my '70 waaaay back in the late '80's.... grind off the shifter knob, tack weld the shift lever at the bottom of the column, find a good body man to fill the hole and paint it.... Easy peasy.....

Yup, what Vince said. I've done it all myself to a number of columns. I just fill it with JB Weld, and sand sand sand until I am 100% happy with it. Works great.

You'll love it in your car!

The one thing I do to keep the filler from just squishing into the column is make a little tin plate that I can wiggle through the opening to be a "backer" for the filler. To hold it in place while I fill it, I drill a tiny hole in the centre of it, run a tiny wire through the hole, then I can pull up on the wire to hold it there will I press the JB into the opening. The JB will stick to the plate if it's clean and roughed up a bit on the surface. Once it's cured, I snip off the wire and trim it back a bit, then cover it with a bit more JB. Hope that makes sense to you.

I haven't done them all that way but that seems to be the best technique I've found.

Damn! I've been looking for a tilt column for over a year and not having the time to check on CP I missed it!

I've got this tilt steering column all converted for the floor shift (thanks for all the tips) and I'm just about to paint it black.

How shiny should it be (pearl, semi-gloss, gloss etc) and does Dupli-color from Canadian Tire make a decent rattle can for this ?

Regards, Scott

I'd just use Krylon Satin Black, it should be available at the local Canadian Tire. I painted the column in the 454 Parisienne with it.

Also Plasti-Kote Hot Rod Black. On my 65 Acadian, it was a perfect match for the original interior metal parts like top of doors above panels, dash panel etc. I never touched my interior up but a friend had a twin car to mine with blue interior. He wanted it black, so he tried Hot Rod Black. You couldn't tell it was any different than my 40,000 mile original black interior.
