Considering A/C for my Impala


Was built as a non a/c car.

Intersted in feedback as to what would be the best way to go.

Under dash would be preferred

Suppliers????

All of the parts needed 

I have purchased a 3 row aluminum rad which has yet to been installed.

Was called into the office 2 weeks ago and told that the company is restructuring.

Got a nice package.    I always maintained that I was working for my Chev.  

This will be part of MY retirement package.  

Looking forward to a lot of cruising this summer.

I think it would be an awesome addition to your great car Cliff!

Here is a system specifically for the 67 Impala. Any system will be pretty labour intensive, so be prepared to spend the "MY retirement".

When I bought my 67 the seller kept the drop air conditioning set up for his camaro. Just wondering if anybody else has heard of the outfits logo on the trunk? 67 drop air 001.JPG

ditto on the 'Vintage Air' . A friend installed on a '70 Chevelle and is quite satisfied. Make sure you have the correct pulleys & hoses as I believe they are not part of the kit

Vintage air systems work well but it's aftermarket. If you have a very original car you will be taking away from that in terms of look and value. However doing a conversion to factory air is a really big undertaking I would probably only contemplate if I had a AC parts car parked in the same garage. I did it on a 69 GTO once and it turned out great but it was a big deal with a partial firewall transplant, dash pad replacement. Some models even require replacing the rad support to accommodate a larger rad.

Is the firewall the same? I know on trucks the -cab- is actually different, as it incorporates a different heater box as well as vents, cowl vents, etc. So the differences -can- run deep. I'd agree with North - for functionality I'd go Vintage, but for a collectible it'd have to be a factory setup, and I wouldn't do that without a working AC parts car and a knowledgeable friend!

What about a restored Sears type system that seemed to be retrofitted into a ton of cars back in the day.

Basically, a compressor on the motor, a condenser in front of the rad, with a under dash evaporator, with blower and controls integrated. Not the prettiest, but the least invasive to the car and I'd think easiest to install. 

I think they still make these all-in-one units new.

Best Way in my opinion find same A/C Donor Car and change over Factory setup. It can be a big job as you may even have to cutout your front Cowl which is not that bad , but it will also be the the most rewarding in the end with correct air vents staring at you sitting in the car or lifting the hood with the Correct Compressor . I have done a couple befor when doing a Complete Restoration and even Changed out the Dash from the A/C car to my Project rather then cutting out holes for the air bellows . I am now doing the same conversion again to A/C on my 1961 Pontiac but i have a complete A/C Donor Car but then again i prefer the factory look.

Sadlly,living in apartment complex makes finding a donor car difficult. ... and working on it even more difficult. 

I am reasonble confident that the Perfect Fit Air will have all the new parts for a complete worry free installation.

My shop in Markham will likely be doing the install.

When the car is in there the brakes are being gone through, with the addition of stainless steel lines, new rear wheel cylinders, and new flex lines.  The brake pads are in good shape as is the 4 piston calipers and chrome master cylinder.  

Whew!!!

What a retirement package!

Best Way to go in your case !  now you can enjoy your retirement. Old Air Products or Vintage Air are both great products to use .wink
