I bought my 1967 Beaumont new in march 1967, and they were painted same colour as the body. The raised vertical edge only was chromed.

My car is an early build SD. Mine were painted, I stripped the paint off and left them chrome by choice (they were chrome under the paint and not scuffed up)... I prefer the chrome look, but my car is custom with lots of chrome, if I were to do an authentic restoration, I'd paint them. The brochure artwork misleads some people into thinking they were all chrome, and also that the tail light housing were black vs. silver on an SD (untrue in my opinion)...the brochure just isn't that accurate, or the artwork predated some of the final decisions.

Did not intent to mislead anyone.  The car I have now is not my original 1967 Beaumont.

I'm surprised that the chrome under the fins was shiny, you'd think the paint wouldnt stick too long...?

Leo, what colour and engine combo was the fist SD you owned? What is the the car you currently have?

The 69-70 Nova fins were done the same, but there were all-painted versions on base SS, Exterior Decor; but chrome ones that were painted except for the edges on a Custom Exterior cars.

My Beaumont came with matching color on the fins except for the leading edge. All of the Beaumont's I saw in those early years had the same treatment. It was only when I was restoring my car that I became aware that some cars didn't have paint on the fins. I'm of the opinion that they came from the factory with paint and it was only over time and body work that the chrome only look started to show up on some cars.

From what I have seen I would certainly agree with you. My neighbour who will be 70 this year has been playing with Beaumonts since they were almost brand new, likely a similar age to you 2 original owners here. He has told me the same, they came with paint on all the chrome except for that raised portion on the leading edge. As stated, I think the paint on the chrome didn't work out to be very durable for the Beaumont division.

Hi Andrew.  My 1st 1967 Beaumont SD was dark blue (danube blue) I think. It was a black interior -  396 - 350 hp - 400 turbo - posi.  I was 17 years old when I bought, and loved that car.

My current 1967 Beaumont is Tuxedo Black laser straight with a mirror finish. It has a black interior - 454 - 575 hp - 400 turbo - 390-12 bolt posi.  I was 55 years old when I bought this one, and I love this car even more.

Sorry about the rant, this is more information than you wanted, but I always get carried away when I talk about my car.

hey everyone when I asked about the fins I think I was 80% sure they came in body colour.i have an old picture beside my original beuamont but I am standing in front of the fins.the car was a 67 sd white with red interior with a 327 300 hp 4 speed.i remember painting the fins red back than to match interior so if they were chrome I would have remembered. that car was my pride and joy and 45 years later I finally found another one.this one isn"t going anywhere.
