RE: Lost everything Yesterday

I'm reading it that Pete's girlfriend has the broken ribs.

I have (2) fractured ribs at the moment, expect 8+ weeks of healing. I'm on week #8 and they are not healed yet (mind you, I haven't been exactly sitting still ... shoveling snowfurious)

All the best to you and your girlfriend Pete. It will be hard taking care of her and cleaning up/sorting out your fire woes.

I can empathise with you as I lost a home to fire in 1984. Not everything was in the house yet as we were in the process of moving in, but for years I would liook for things that I knew we had, but had lost in the fire.
You might find that you will simplfy a little bit after it's all settled. Get yourself a nice driver to have fun with, and just buy the tools you need to maintain it. Wishing you all the best as you move forward!

Uh, Pete complained about sore ribs before, I read it as his girlfriend 'took him' to the hospital, he is taking meds - hope you both get well (and Darryl why don't you have a snowblower anyway, I thought it was a gov't requirement in Canada blankstare)

Fractured ribs affect your brain. biggrin I'll get a blower when I retire (I get up too early to be blowing snow).

Pete, get well. I feel for you.

just a little update on total loss, Insurance co. had a crew in the following Tues. due to family day wknd. tore down the remains all by hand other than a sawzall & pulled out anything that looked like "contents" 4 dumpster were filled. Wrecker had a "bitch" of a time getting remains of Olds. on the flat deck, rear springs melted, shocks gone and rear end held in by trailing arms, but flopping all around!!! 2nd. trip for Pontiac and trailer worked better but thought remains of trailer and Poncho were going to break in half. The concrete pad is "pooched" heaved, cracked and has pot holes from heat !!! the only problem so far is with the trailer Ins. it's covered under the Yukon policy but they don't seem to return my calls as Im out of the loop on seeing what's happening there. the other ins. on cars and garage are in touch regularly and have asked me " how I'm doing with broken ribs" Asked me to get a contractor to submit a bid, [ their contractor will do the same] When I told them my back up Generator was lost in fire, they said it would be looked after, I explained if I didn't get one now!!! there might be a water damage claim from sump pump if Hydro goes off!! Reply was "GO get one NOW!!! submit bill & NO PROBLEM!!! Starting to loose a bit of pain in ribs, [ may just be the pain killers] but it's better! Pete

Did the fire inspector come up with the cause of the fire Pete?

First time seeing this topic today, been working abroad. Sorry that this happened to you Pete. Do you plan to rebuild the car(s)?

Cars are "TOTALLED" nothing left, no salvageable parts, what so ever!!! Fire insp. "thinks " it was the beer fridge or the stereo both located under the bench and it was the bench on fire when I went in with extinguisher. Seeing as the car aluminium car trailer "melted" I'm pretty sure the Tremic trans. was toast, & I wouldn't trust it anyway, after that intense heat!!! Found my trailer hitch "block" but won't use that either, likely gone "brittle" not worth losing a trailer on the road if it snapped!!!!

Just a "update" on what's happening, Vintage insurance has paid out on both cars for 19a policy, my regular car insurance paid off on the car trailer as well. A local contractor that I called in, won the bid for rebuilding garage including tearing out the concrete pad and replacing it!!! Insurance co. contractor wanted to skim coat it, "said it would be fine" but I was fighting this until quotes came in!! Local guy was under their bid!!! So now all the Bull Shite starts with permits, site plans etc. Even Durham health has got their hand out, for permit due to septic tank, even though they passed it 11 years ago they want more $$$ to pass it AGAIN Have bought a new aluminium trailer, have put a downstroke on another classic, [ keep you folks guessing] although I can say it's not a Poncho unfortunately, but think it will "pass muster" here. Still have to deal with the contents & that's up to 3 1/2 pages & growing as I try to list "everything" that was in there, AGAIN suggest that you take pictures of your shop & tools etc. as this is one bitch of a job and wake up in middle of night & go an ad another item to list!!!!

Good to hear things are moving ahead in a positive fashion Pete. If you have a few extra bucks run some piping in your slab and later you can heat your shop real nice with a little boiler unit. Piping is easy to install yourself. Good luck with the build.

You reading my mind? { what's left of it] already spoke to my contractor about doing this just in case I want to hook it up to small hot water heater on a 'timed" pump. Friend in Port Perry did this too, after his garage went up in flames, says small electric heater with circulation pumps works great!!  My ribs, are still sore & at my age will take awhile to heal!!  Capt. Morgan is a good pain relief!!!

Glad to hear that you are working through the claims relatively quickly. Allowing for in floor heating sounds like such a smart move. Was over at a recent installation, insulated quanhset hut. and couldn't believe how small and efficient the heater was.

Talked to local wrecker that got the Pontiac & cutlass for safe storage while insurance settled claim. He finally got release on them & pulled the Tremic 5speed out of the 52 Poncho, shifter tower fried, brgs. look pretty bad too, figures it will need all the brgs. replaced + a new shifter tower if the case "ain't warped". Olds. rear was "seized" solid as was the Pontiac's, only thing he saved was the frame from Cutlass!!! That was a hot garage fire!!!!!! Shop is up & complete, bit of a dispute over tool replacement, but I got what I wanted and have started replacing equipment slowly. Other than that glitch, everything went smoothly with no arguments & my contractor " CedarCreek" out of Port Perry was just the "BEST"

Good news. How did the septic tank item work out? Can't keep a good man down for long.

For the most part, great news Pete. It's nice to hear the story has a relatively happy ending when you think of what could have been.
