Canso emblem restore help

I'm looking for some guidance (hopefully picture attached) with restoration of my emblems

  • anyone know which of the 2 canso emblems is correct. Top one has red around the leaf as well as in it and second one is leaf only
  • Any tips on preparing and finishing would be appreciated i.e. paint type and colors, clear coat after painting. I have several of the sport deluxe ones to do

Post or PM me would be fine

This thread may have a picture that helps. It's from my 65 SD that I bought from the original owner in 1986, with 43,000 miles on it at that time.

Thanks Carl,

That helps with where the colors are to be. I knew you'd come through. Any advice on clear coat or not?

My guess would be no clear coat. I think the paint is supposed to be quite flat. Maybe not totally flat but very low gloss.

That's just a guess though, I can't prove it.

nod.gif^^ I`d say more like a semi gloss when it was new. Found a red in a spray bomb that was very close when I did mine. Will see if I still have and part#. Spray a bit into a container/lid and use a very fine craft paint brush like these. Craft/Dollar store should have them.

I have the same paint that pin strippers use. It's call " One Shot ". Have several colours.
Got most of mine from Eastwood but I'm sure hobby shops or such in Canada would have it.
Most emblems aren't painted with a fine brush but rather the paint is put on and then the excess is removed with solvent just before it dries.

Testors model paint works quite well too plus they have many colors to choose from.

I like it, looks as good as new.  So what was the secret coating?

Just spray bombs and taping off. Not as tough as I thought it would be. The Canso leaf was a brush.
I did clear coat though.

Now the hood ornament thingy. With the A and 3 leaves. Black around the A and red in the leaves? Can anybody confirm that for me?
