VIN VERIFICATION


Hey guys, looking for help with my 1960 Laurentian wagon from Canada i purchased back in november. i need to know where the vin location(s) besides the one on driver's 

door jamb on my wagon. im getting ready to sink our hard earned money into this project and i want to make sure its for a good cause: my kids and I ( lol ). any help is appreciated

Don't know if the VIN is punch on the frame or elsewhere......here's what I got from Pontiac catalogue......

Supposedly the police have access to the information that tells them where else on the vehicle the VIN is stamped.  On cars of the generation that my cars are from it's stamped on top of the frame rail behind the drivers side rear tire.  When I did the chassis swap on my 70 Parisienne, I used a chassis from a 69 2+2 and sandblasted the replacement frame.  I specifically looked there for the VIN stamp but sure didn't see anything.

I suspect you're not going to find the VIN anywhere else except on the plate on your drivers doorjamb/pillar.

 I've heard that the frame partial vin stamp is accurate for 1959 X-frame cars,...as well......but MAY have been for US built cars only....

 As long as the s/n tag doesn't look like it's been tampered with........you SHOULD be OK...

If you have a good motor vehicle registration, you should not need a VIN verification? Or does your state have a special requirement?

On US Chevies, the serial number was stamped as said above, on top of the frame rail behind the driver side tire. It was also stamped on the X, in the area under the driver's side seat, more or less. It is very difficult to see this stamping on the frame, even if you remove the body. Especially if you have any amount of surface rust.

If you have the GM Canada package, www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html , it would also have a motor stamp number for your original block, if your motor is original. That may be acceptable to your DMV? Or you might also ask GM Vintage about where the serial number was stamped on a 60?

Someone who knows from their own 60 Pontiac may also show up here and know. Good luck.

I'll ask "What are your concerns?" Does it look like the VIN tag has been tampered with? I don't imagine there's a large industry of people re-body'ing 60 Laurentian wagons.

 I know in BC if you are insuring a out of province vehicle it must be inspected and vin verified by an Ins agent. Kinda crazy how the registered inspecting shop can't verify vin! Vehicle must be taken to ins agent...but how do you do that with no insurance!!confuse Ran into this a few times with "New" out of province work trucks, had to borrow their "R" plate so agent could verify vin!no

When I had my 68 station wagon frame acid dipped I just stamped my initials in 3 different places on the frame after it had been coated with epoxy enamel.

or

if you can punch the vin number into the frame that would be a good identification if there ever was a theft. Might not be sufficient for police or insurance but would help identifying the frame should the need arise..
