just got a letter back from ministry of transportation from Kingston about my yom plates.
had to sign a paper saying that I would be responsible for all fines if any against the plates just payed 253.00 for plates plus shipping now they want a 32.00 more to put them in my name what a ripe off
I had an absolutely mint pair of 1965 plates that I was going to use until I found out about the cost involved, just a "big money grab ". Sold them at a swap meet and had "the plate maker" make me a plate for $25 and use it at car shows. Just have to remember to take it off before leaving!

Makes total sense to me.

I use to have a mint restored set of plates for 1955 1956 and 1957 Ontario, all matched pairs. I ended up selling all three sets. It is just too much trouble and expense to get these on a car.

Getting out of hand at Lic. office!!! They wanted $14 "FEE" to search ownership by plate # on my fire loss Cutlass, $32 to issue new ownership, to credit me back the 1 yr left on plates [ $ 18 ] Same with the 52 Poncho but would have got "maybe $60 back!!! So Wynne gets to keep my $$$$ As for YOM, that's a huge chunk of money to pay out, same as having a "vanity" or personalized plate!!! I did the plate switch when I had 64 Catalina, put a set of 64 Ontario plates over the Historic plates at shows with "Velcro"

$253 for a set of yom plates sounds pretty high - they must have been in better than new condition. I don't think I'd worry about the $32 the gov't wants, I think you got riped off by the seller. (in Alberta we'd say rip off, but in Ontario I guess it's ripe off)
