Wanted: Posi differetial for '64 CS

A long shot I know. But, does anyone have for sale a posi traction differential with 355 gears that will bolt into a 1964 CS?

Eaton makes a very good posi but you'll need to find a 3.55 open rear to get the gear you need.

If you go here you will see lots of great advice and pics on converting x frames to posi, the poster, DZAUTO, is a great guy. Search any of his posts for advice in the 58-60 and 61-64 forums. There is also a second brand besides Eaton, the Nitro. Eaton is available on places like ebay and Summit in the US. In Canada, check at a Speed shop/engine shop.

He says stuff like this:

READ CAREFULLY.
TAKE GOOD NOTES.
There WILL BE a test first hour Fri morning!!!!
ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 55-56 pass car and 56 Vette axles are the same---------totally identical-----------AND THEY WILL ONLY FIT IN A 55-56 AXLE HOUSE. NOTHING ELSE INTERCHANGES!

There were TWO pairs of 57 ONLY axles. Regular axles for non-posi rears and posi axles. The posi axles were 1/8in shorter than the non-posi axles.

If a (FACTORY) posi is installed in a 55-56-57 axle housing, then it is necessary to grind off 1/8in from the splines of the non-posi axles. TOOOOOOOOO easy!

The 57(non-posi) and 58 axles are exactly the same axle. The difference is in the axle bearings. The 58 axles used the wider RW607 series bearing. The 57 axle bearing is ONE YEAR only. The 57 Vettes also had the SAME two pair of axles as the 57 pass cars-----------depending on whether they were posi or non-posi.
The 57 Vette non-posi axles and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 58-62 Vette axles were the same as the 57(non-posi)-58 pass car axles.

You CANNOT, CANNOT, CANNOT use a 55-56 axle in a 57-64 axle housing and you CANNOT, CANNOT, CANNOT use a 57-64 axle in a 55-56 housing. The difference between 55-56 and 57-64 axles AND housings is in the bearings---------THEY WILL NOT INTERCHANGE!!!!

The 57-58 and 59-64 axles will interchange, EXCEPT, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, the 59-64 axles are 1/2in longer. That additional length is between the bearing seat and the wheel flange.
The 59-62 Vettes DID NOT use the longer axles that were in the 59-64 pass cars, ALTHOUGH, as pointed out above, they will interchange----------the wheels will just stick out 1/2in more on each side.

Yes I have a 3:55 Posi Rearend Complete, that came out of a`62 Laurentian 2 DrPost.

It worked well 10 years ago, when We pulled it out of the car.

It`s abit of an oddball, in that somebody before Me, converted a`66 GTO Posi Rearend to fit the`62.

I`m on the We(s)tCoast. If it interests You at all maybe just Email Me back direct @ pmdgto@shaw.ca
