Hello all I'm not familiar with this form this other than lurking around but you folks seem to know a lot about these car after having it sent to get the body done 2 years ago I brought it back home to do it my self long story and not a happy one!
i was hoping to get more info on the car as I'm having second thoughts about just for getting about it.
vin#7363781104706
the cowl tag is as follows
first line-A51C08D55M35T-27
second line the first 2 letters are larger than all the other numbers.
ST numbers that follow 68 73637 0S795917
third line has the same bigger letters followed by smaller clearer number and is as follows
Thank you for taking the time to reply just got her back from a bad deal with trying to help someone out by putting them to work on the body big mistake just trying to decide how to finish it now! Oddly like the green! Is there any way to tell what the engine would have been? I would guess it was a 307?
GM Vintage Vehicle Services, for a fee, will tell you all of the above info plus selling dealer, date of build, date of shipment, engine size and number of this model manufactured.
Contact info is elsewhere on this site.
Your car is one of 3477 v8 custom hardtops made that year. You would have had a choice of the 307 and two 350's a 255 and 300 hp . Like Ted said GM Vintage Services can give you that information. The 307 would have got the 5/16 Fuel line And I have read on chevelle sites that 350 would have 3/8 fuel lines. May be some one on this site could confirm or defunk this. So check your frame fuel line size if original.
That's great information guys thank you it is most definitely a 3/8 fuel line but that being said I have never owned a car that has been pull apart and reassembled so poorly. It did have a 350 4spd in it when in bought it both were supposed to be brand new rebuilt never fired I got 5 miles from home after I got it running lost oil pressure when I tore it down it had 4 different Pistons in it that should explain what the rest has been like! Lol I think I will look into getting the info from gm pretty fantastic that they do that!
I hope the weather is better in Winnipeg than here! I was hoping to drive the car there to visit family this summer but I will be luck to get the body finished and sprayed by then!
Hi 68 never came with a 350 they came with 307 or 327 that's for sure been looking 6 month for a correct dated 327 block for my 68 to replace my 307 that started smoking last summer good luck !
Good info thanks yeah the more I learn the more I give up on the car ever being an original show car type with out winning the lottery! I built a 434 Ci small block and backed it by a TKO600 trans. Swapped disc's on the front, I bought the car sight unseen from a family friend against my better judgement. So might as well enjoy it.
He is so right no 350 in 68 . I had 69 on my brain. Sorry for that crap info. I have a 69 so that's drilled into my head. It would be a 307 or 250 hp 327 or a 275 hp 327 .

Not sure if its right for you but there's a fellow in Duncan BC on Vancouver island that's parting out a full size 68 Pontiac Convertible with a 327. He is asking $850 for the good running engine. Here is details he posted;
Engine block casting # is: 3914678 (for specific applications see page 65 of Alan Colvin's Chevrolet by the Numbers Volume 1965-69) Engine block casting date is: E 28 8 = May 28 1968 Assembly code stamping on block is V0531HH = Flint assembly May 31 1968
