my beaumont is in the shop for a fresh coat of paint, now the chrome side fins which i am sure are repops dont realy sit snug against rear quarters.the top fastener on the fin is too far down to tighten it snug, now my question is what alloy are these fins made of for i like to somehow bend them to make them sit properly with no huge gaps.thanks
I'd tread really lightly on trying to bend one, pot metal isn't receptive to bending! Might be easier to get the quarter to fit the chrome...have the quarters been changed? Are the fins loose just at the top?
gap is about an 1/8 of an inch only on top and as i said earlier the top screw on the fin is about 3 inches down and just doesn't have that snug look.i am not fond of any repops and i sure am not going to start playing around with quarter panel..i will live with it if i have to,just wish the manufacturer if he is reading if that top nut on fin is closer up i'm sure it would work better
So the fins are aftermarket for sure? I don't know anyone who has used them, and if they have the same issues. Mine are factory and fit snug to the body line... You could try some heat (boiling water) and to bend one very slowly and gently! You don't want to damage the chrome... If you're painting them like the factory finish, you could build it up with some epoxy, or other filler and paint them out...then only the chrome edge would be off...
I know that the reproductions if they came from Dale's are the same as the factory fins and they mount in the same holes as the originals. The difference from the original to the reproduction fin was less than a 1/8" overall length but did not change the mounting pins location.
picture above is how car looked before i sent her in for paint.here i am 6 months later finally painted and is being cut and poished than hopefully put it together
I bought repro fins from Dale's Muscle Car Parts and they did not fit tight against the body, so I called Dale and he said to put them in a bucket of hot water for a while then gently bend them (gently) to fit the body. I did and it worked.
