2 years ago I decided that it was time to do some maintenance to the dash of my '66 Beau. The clock had quit... the needle had come off the speedo... my single dash speaker wasn't cutting it... my ugly dash mounted cassette deck was an eyesore... all my bulbs were burnt out... the tab on a heater cable was broken...etc. Tear down was the easy part:
As the radio was pooched and I no longer had the metal in the dash to support it, I decided to make a light weight Beaumont AM radio faceplate which could be supported by only the plastic of the dash. This also allowed some space for a new audio component:

If anyone is ever modifying a non convertible dash for a convertible dash, don't forget to file down the excess plastic on the inside of the dash prior to installation. Otherwise, you'll be taking it all apart again (like I did!)

And although I no longer have a working radio, I do have a small Kenwood marine unit hidden under the dash with a remote control cable running into my console. The remote has BlueTooth integration allowing my kids to play tunes off their iPhones through the dash and kick mount speakers.
With the dash mounted Sport Deluxe screws holding the excess wires and AM antenna out of the way, above the cardboard glove box:
