Power Drum brake master cylinder question...

I'm hoping for a quick fix to a brake problem to keep me going/stopping until I revisit my entire braking system in the fall. As such I looking to quickly replace my existing factory single reservoir master cylinder. Apparently I need to know if I require a 7/8" or 1" bore.  Huh?...  I now have the old unit off, what should I be measuring?

thx!

Hi Geoff

I am having a similar problem right now as well. My master cylinder is slowly leaking fluid down the front of the booster, and the booster apparently has a small vacuum leak. Need to replace both. We both have have 66 SD with the 327 so if you find out the proper replacement products, please let me know what #s,and where to get them. KMS had a disc kit on sale in the spring, and they are not to expensive even when not on sale. I heard the kits are all made in China anyways.

I believe this tells me that the current master cylinder is a 1" bore...

Once I've done the change and confirmed the part is a fit, I'll post the part number...

I'll hopefully be working on it tomorrow. As i have zero knowledge of this stuff, just looking at how it all goes together I currently can't help but think either of the 7/8" or 1" options should work albeit with the larger one possibly moving more fluid resulting in perhaps a more "touchy" pedal than the other? Hopefully someone can explain why they might not be interchangeable....

Thinking that the 1" would move move fluid and therefore would require more foot pressure. Therefore 1" is probably for power assist brakes and 7/8" for non power assist. (Just a guess though.)

The manual drums on our 68 you have to stand on them in the driveway.cant imagine on the road.
Got a disc brake kit with the car definitely going that route.
