colour

My 62 Pontiac has a aqua /  green colour interior and I would like to get a paint match to touch up. Is there a paint code somewhere on the car?

I'm not sure if 62 is the same as later 60's but I think so. If so, on your cowl (firewall) tag, it will say "Paint" and then a code. Once you find that, then go here---

However, that will only give you exterior codes. Is the interior the same?

Yeah, the cowl tag has a trim code but I don't think there's anything on that site for interior trim codes. That's always a stumper.

I just had a spray bomb made so I can paint a steering column and I took the ash tray face in so they could match the paint.

For interior, that paint code won't be there, a trim code is there, but that will be the upholstery code.

Best to take a piece of trim with you and get it matched at a paint place, maybe NAPA or Autochoice or your local body shop. Find something that's not faded like the inside of a glove box door or ashtray. The dash surface will use the same paint but with some flattener added to reduce glare.

The guy where I got mine mixed told me it's flat or gloss, he has no semi. He told me to sand it with 2500 to knock the gloss down but I plan to try it straight up first and see how it looks.

Thought I might have the swatches but alas only 64 and 65, sorry.
Have used the methods described above if you can get a big enough area to scan.

I went to SMS Auto Fabrics website. They will probably have the swatch samples that will match your interior. A few years ago, I ordered the material, but before that I requested several swatches to confirm the shade of the vinyl. Search their site for the American equivalent of your car and request the samples you are interested in via e-mail. They will mail your samples at no charge. If you don't mind waiting for snail-mail.

It wouldn't hurt to at least look.

At upper right corner look for "Search Materials" to select year, make and model.

I'm curious if there are paint shops that use color matching camera that will scan the paint and give the possible variants of the color.

This is a 62 page from the Chevy II.  I do feel sometimes colors are the same, maybe even with a different name.  Anything here look familiar??
