hello all, new member here, have acquired 53 cheiftain, will need rInge, bearings etc. Gasket sets, looking for suppliers . I am located in sask. Thankyou
ok first you have to determine if its a Canadian or u.s car.I'm assuming because it has the 239 it would be a Canadian built Pontiac. It will say gm of Canada on you vin tag.So right off the bat it won't be a chieftain as that is the u.s model name.In Canada it would be a silverstreak or something like that.Just as aan example my 54 in the u's is a chieftain, but because its a Canadian built car it is either a pathfinder or a laurentian which is what mine is.They have very little in common with their u.s Pontiac cousins and more in common with a u.s Chevrolet of the same year.My 54 is a 54 chevy from the firewall back and Canadian Pontiac from the firewall forward.Uses 54 chevy chassis components but none of the same engine or tranny components.Confused yet?So the biggest search will be for engine parts as the 239 engines were mostly in Canadian cars and parts can be tough to find, but their out there.Transsmission stuff, try classictransmissionsolutions.com they had all my powerglide kits.I'm sure the engine parts are around just going to take a bit of detective work to find what you need.I've bought my master gasket kits from ebay.
Hwscowboy, Thankyou for your info, yes, I am a bit confused! The car is registered as a cheiftain, radio says cheiftain on it, but has GM Canada tag. But in decoding vin it comes up as 4 door sedan cheiftain deluxe! And rear sheet metal looks different than pathfinder etc. I'll try to post some pics

I have the same car. 52 2569D with us chassis and body and 239 with hydramatic. so far no issue finding stuff. let me know if you have further questions.
Thanks Brett, cleared up a few things! Mine also is 2569WD with hydra matic. So looks like US chassis sold in Canada! Engine was stuck so pulled engine and trans. Have 5 of the six pistons out working on the sixth! So waiting to get that out before I know for sure what parts needed. But local NAPA and bumper to bumper couldn't find parts! Thanks again for the help
that is a strange one cause it does look like a u.s chieftain body, but with a 239 flathead?Never knew they made such a thing. On facebook theres a group call the Pontiac chieftain club, may find some help there.Californian Pontiac restoration does a lot of the pieces and parts for the American pontiacs

This car is a US one with a 6? Normal situation. They don't sell a lot 6 cylinders in US model since the price between them was not very high. It's the same spec as the Canadian 239 one.
