1964 parisienne convertible under dash wiring harness.

Took my old ignition switch out the other day and realized my under dash wiring is in bad shape needs to be replaced my ignition switch has 8 prongs on it but the replacement switch i bought as a 64 impala part has 5 prongs and does not fit. So my question is will a brand new underdash harness for 64 impala be the same ? even with the different switch.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The harness is different in many ways. Pontiac has an ammeter gauge which run thru the ignition switch hence the extra terminals. Location of lamps , radio, lighter and heater controls which also be an issue. You might be better off having your harness rebuilt by someone like m&h electrical. The dash harness is more like a Catalina than Impala. wiringharness.com

Wasn't there a post here in the last couple of months about a 64 ignition switch?

Was it 64 or 65? I remember the discussion.

I would agree with Pontiax that you'd be a lot closer with a Catalina harness vs. Impala but I'm betting the Cat harness won't be a direct fit either.

Are the US Pontiac headlight switch, wiper switch, and heater controls the same?

Might be worth looking up wiring diagrams for the 64 Cdn and US Pontiacs, plus the impala.

My 63 ignition switch had 8 terminals too, the 5 on a Chevy are marked sol, acc, bat, ign, grd. The extra 3 on the Pontiac are marked 2, reg, and dr. I haven't looked up to see what the extra 3 are for, but one must be the ammeter (REG?), the other two?

I used Donnie at American Autowire on my Chevy harness, it was plug and play. He may also know about US Pontiac harnesses.
