I don't know anything about these trucks but am wondering if it's possible that the Pontiac badge was added later in its life. It doesn't really look like it belongs on the truck and I don't recall seeing many military vehicles from the day with brand badging on them.
Although those are surely one of the ugliest Chevies ever made, they were highly successful in WWII and saw service with our allies all over the globe. They were Canadian; so then the Pontiac version was a Canadian Pontiac!

A rusty nameplate denotes no chrome, a hallmark of wartime military manufacturing. I recently read a book about how huge a boon it was for The Big Three (and other smaller marques) to make all kinds of wartime stuff.

I realize that, but my reasoning was that typically GM would manufacture military vehicles under their truck brands, i.e. Chevrolet and GMC. The badge also looked too large and unwieldy for what I would expect to see on a military vehicle, and is more severely rusted than all the steel surrounding it.
To me, it looks to be more along the lines of a dash emblem like this one from a '41 Pontiac, but maybe off a cheaper model with a painted emblem?
Just my thoughts... However, though I can't say it didn't happen, I've seen no documentation that shows it did happen, yet.
