Paris, Ontario Car Show. The 44th annual event. Sunday September 17, 2017.

I took in the 44th annual Paris, Ontario car show with my 57 Pontiac. My partner (Mary) came with me for a change and it was a real hot one. This event always has a great turn out of real quality cars. Check out the rides. Cheers. George.

I spoke to the owner of that amazing 1958 Pontiac with 12,000 documented miles. He bought the car from the original owner just recently. Paint, chrome, interior and all mechanical parts are factory original. I went over the whole car and the car is 100% perfect, not one single speck of rust. The car is a 261 six with Power Glide I talked the owner into joining C.P. This would make a perfect feature car.

George I am pretty sure that 58 Pontiac is an original Timmins Ontario car. It was parked in a garage on Cedar street north for years and when I got to have a look at it in the 70's it had 6,000 miles. Cartier Motors was a Pontiac Buick GMC dealership located at the bottom of third ave on the corner with mountjoy street. That dealership turned into Bupont Motors which converted to a Nissan dealership when GM downsized their dealership structure..A friend of mine grew up roght next door to where the 58 was and the next time I talk to him I will ask the original family owners name. I look forward to this car being a feature car. Thanks for all the pics.

Al, you are right. The 58 was sold in Timmins originally.

I was of the opinion that Bupont had been the Pontiac dealer in Timmins going way back. Taylor55 you have enlightened me that they were previously Cartier. How did you or your brother miss getting this one?

George, thanks again for all the pictures. We are indebted.

To be honest at the time, nobody was interested in the 58 Pontiac as it was a 4 door and we were told the car was going to a family member. I always wondered where the 58 ended up and was sure happy to finally see it and to know it has been kept in such fabulous condition. The car was absolutely perfect and was just stunning to look at. Remember this was in the 70's and I had my 55 Pontiac 2 door and my brother Neil was really into low mile cars from the 30's and 40's and California imported El Caminos from the 60's. My father had his 18,000 mile 1954 Desoto so we had a full compliment of old cars.

I have been looking for a Cartier Motors dealer emblem in metal for a long time but have not found one yet. I do have one in plastic that a friend gave me but I think it must be from the 60's. The 55 I have owned since 1972 was sold new at Cartier Motors and I would like to get a metal emblem for it.

There was also a Cartier Theatre at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Maple street in Timmins a block up the street from the car dealership.

I am really looking forward to hearing the story of where the 58 has been since leaving Timmins and hope it is a monthly feature car real soon.

Al

Cartier Motors opened in 1944 and was sold in 1959 and became Bupont Motors. The Cartier theatre was located at the bottom of third avenue on mountjoy right across the street from the car dealership. It was the broadway theatre that was located on third ave and maple street.

Thanks for that bit of Timmins history.

And thank you to the other posters for letting us carry on our own conversation.

I too look forward to see and learning more about the 58.
