Planning on meeting Barry Saturday morning and taking one of these beasts home with me.
The LeMans is currently a 2.73 open rear end. The car runs great moreso on the highway where it seems like it's got unlimited top end however a posi and 3.08 ratio is a definite upgrade.
In checking US specs the 455 1973 GTO was only offered in auto trans and only offered with the 3.08 ratio so basically I'll be running the same combo 454 auto with 3.08. I'm told its a very good big block ratio since the torque can overcome just about any ratio you stick back there at high speed and at low speed I should be picking up improved bite and acceleration. Nothing like a little road trip for parts on a Saturday morning, 65camino will be riding along.
Exactly. 3.55 gears are tons of fun but the novelty wears off after a few miles on the highway. My 427 4 speed Grande Parisienne was a 3.31 posi. Nice enough all around gear, except when I drove the car to the POCI meet in North Carolina. At 70 mph that gear was starting to get a bit tiring because I was on the stock height 14" tires.

I think this will be a major upgrade project, I'm thinking new brake lines, new rear brakes, springs, shocks, bushings and hardware, maybe adjustable control arms.........
