New from Sweden

Hello and good day,

I´m Magnus from Sweden.

Last week I took the chance to buy a 1958 Laurentian 2 door coupe in Germany

The car is in very good condition, no rust and all is working.

I have all ready a question to the experts in this board.

The ID plates I have found showing the below info, but I do not find documents who helps me to identify what does it mean.

I would realy apreciate if, you could help.

Many thanks in advance and kind regards,

Magnus

The bigger of the two plates in the motor room say this:

Style: 7831

Boddy Nr. 715491

Paint 2215

Trim 912

B.S.O 357

On a smaler plate we have the numbers:

Serial 8783115057

Enoine 9V94615

Welcome and congratulations on your new purchase. It is gorgeous. My roots are from Sweden and with a last name of Forsberg I also enjoy following your hockey stars who come play over here to play. Peter was one of my favourites.

I also own 1958 Pontiac thats a Parisienne sport coupe and have a full library of info on 1958 Pontiacs. I will decode the numbers you have shown within a couple of hours and send them off. I see from the V8 emblem on side of car it has an eight cylinder.  Can you tell if it's a 283 or a 348.  Not sure if my info will help in deciphering. Bob Crocker in south western Ontario.

OK Magnus have found out most of the information you are looking for.

Style 7831 indicates your car is a 1958 Pontiac Laurentian  Sport Coupe with a eight cylinder engine.

Body number was the assigned production number.

Paint code 2215 shows the original colours to be Anniversary Gold on the lower and Honey Beige on the top and rear quarter insert so it would appear your car has been repainted!

Trim  number 912 was a medium gold cloth with beige vinyl trim to match the exterior original colour.  Looks like the interior has also been changed.

BSO 357 (Body Special Order) was a number that indicated a special item on the car!  Anniversary Gold was a special paint so it could have been for that.  However can't be sure!

Serial number 8 stands for the year 7831 the model and 15057 was the assigned production number.

engine number 9V94615  The 9 stands for power-glide transmission and I think the V is for a 283 V8 engine that was built in Flint Michigan.  The 94615 was the assigned production number.  Hope this will be some help for you and if you need and further info just PM me and I will try to help.  Bob.

A hardy welcome aboard from Milton, Ontario, Canada. What a sweet lucky find in that beautiful 58. Do you have any history on the car, like how it got to Germany in the first place. Any photos of the V-8 motor in that 58. Continued good luck with your car and i hope you enjoy the journey here on C.P. Cheers. George

Welcome aboard.
GM Vintage Vehicle Services will, for a fee, decipher most of the numbers for you. They also supply the selling dealer in Canada or indicate if the car was for export from Canada.
That is one sweet looking 58.

Hallo all

many many thanks for the replies and info you have send me , much apreciated !!

I have received a lot of documents with the car, a bunch of photos from the restauration, a service book, the sales catalogue, also the original receip from the car dealer in Ontario back in 1958.

I´m back home mid of next week and will scan the stuff I have to show you, as well a few more pictures.

The engine is a 283 V8, Carl is right in his research , it came to germany in 2007 and was ristored in 1972 according to the photos I have.

Best regards,
Magnus

Beautiful looking 58 time machine. Your 58 was originally sold in Espanola, Ontario, Canada and it ended up in Germany, very interesting. It is amazing where our Canadian Poncho's end up some time. Magnus, you should contact Todd, our commanding chief here at C.P. about making your 58 a C.P. feature car. Your car is very worthy of such an honour.  I hope you enjoy your ride here at C.P. Cheers. George

Have you thought about submitting your story to the administrator here at Canadian Poncho so he could feature your car some month? That way we would get to see it at the top of the page for a whole month, which would be great.

Hi George ,
Hi Carl,

appreciate your suggestion !

I have more photos also from the original restoration made in the 70th and may it is possible to find the route back to the guys who did the first refresh work ?

Could realy imagin, that the job was done somewhere in Canada and in case they see the pictures may they rememnber ... ? Who knows what could happen

I have only papers from the last two owners in Germany but can`t realy find out what the import date was and on which way the car came into europe?

But will check and search based on the documents I have...

Keep you in the loop !

To all of you a happy and healty new year 2018 )
