Whoa! Super rare '62 Grand Prix with the drag version dual quad SD421. The dual master cylinders and separate brake pedal, factory line lock! It would have used free flowing aluminum exhaust manifolds that were to be used for a pass then shut down to cool.

I know this is a special car but is it really worth this kind of dough in this condition.

I've seen its twin at the POCI convention a couple of times. What a beauty this one is, all restored.

With out a "buy it now" price .  IT will be on E-bay for years .   everyone wants to buy it cheap .   He probably wants 100g for it .

From the Ad

1962 Pontiac Grand Prix 421 Super Duty Barn Find. This Factory Street Racer has been off the road since the 70's. It is EXTREMELY RARE as it is 1 of 16 DOCUMENTED Grand Prix Super Dutys produced in 1962. It was equipped with a 421 with dual 4 barrel carburetors,4-speed, and 8 lug wheels.

The car does not have its original motor, however this auction comes with a 1962 421 Super Duty block, an original aluminum dual quad intake, original heads, and the very rare factory high performance exhaust manifolds.

It still retains its numbers matching 4 speed transmission, as well as the bell housing, flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, and correct starter.

It also has a radiator.

As the pictures show, this car needs a complete restoration. It appears that this car has never been painted or in an accident (except a small issue with the right front fender). There is a dent on top of the right rear quarter panel from a tree limb falling on it.

The frame has scaling but did not see any rust through.

All the glass (except windshield) appears to be in good condition, as it the stainless trim.

This is a very unique opportunity to own a very rare car that was an icon back in the day when Pontiac dominated racing with these cars. It is 1 of 5 or so know to exist.

Please ask any questions PRIOR to bidding on this car. I will answer all questions to the best of my ability. I WILL NOT answer any questions pertaining the reserve on this car. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time.

I see no mention of any PHS documents which would certainly help sell it.

The last Super Duty Grand Prix that sold went for over $300,000 US, lots of room for a restoration on this one. What's it worth? My guess is that it will sell outside of ebay for the 50-60k range.

But first it will need to have documents, don't you think Brad?

For sure. If I were a buyer on this I would order the PHS, but it does not matter that much because the vin is well documented as being one of the 16 cars. Putting the pieces together of the transmission vin, vin tag, colors and options (again well documented in Pete McCarthy's book) the big question is if we believe that this is one of those 16 documented cars or if someone faked the car. I would say that it is the real deal based on the vin on the transmission, the colors and the options with it. I did bid, but just for fun more than going after it. I know that the seller has had offers of over 45k because I offered him $30k and he turned me down quick and have stayed in touch with him. Anyway, it is a cool car, super rare and hope it gets the restoration it needs. The body does look fairly rough on her, but now that it is out in the open, I am guessing I will get to see it again at one of the Pontiac shows or events.

Did the GP's come with aluminum fenders and/or bumpers?

None of the Grand Prix's had aluminum pieces from the factory. They are kind of an oddity since they are kind of a luxury race car (super duty) As you can see in the photos of this car, someone added a trailer hitch, maybe it pulled a true full on super duty light weight in its day?? Would be good to learn more of the history on this one. The buyer will need to work backwards on that though.

Ok, I couldn't recall for sure how that went. Not even all the other model SD cars got aluminum components though, did they?

Certainly a curiosity, a luxury car with an all out race engine.

It would be like ordering a 66 Grande Parisienne with an L72 427 4 speed in 66!

My take on the factory aluminum fenders/parts, they were were part of GM racing and became available on late 62 or 63 cars provided to racing teams. Production numbers were very low, like 20 or 50, then GM got out of racing and discontinued the parts. Some aluminum parts were available over the counter, but also in very limited numbers. You could get aluminum fenders, inner and outer, for both 63 US Pontiac and Chevy full size, maybe some over the counter for 62's. The Pontiac's may have been just the Swiss Cheese cars?
