Dating Ads

I have never been a fan of the ads on here but I understand the need for the ads to provide the dollars to maintain this site BUT is it really necessary to allow the sleazy dating site ads? Not 1 ad not 2 ads but 3 !!! Sickening.!

I don't think my wife of 46 years would go for it. With all the ads that could be automotive related surely this stuff isn't necessary. Does the site have control of what ads are posted?

To be honest I never noticed the adds so their content is irrelevant to me.

With the number of adds we are exposed to on websites I just scroll by them. If a news or sports story clip is preceded by an add I either talk to my wife for a few seconds or exit the clip.

Exactly the same thing I do. Photos I've learned to ignore and those videos I either read something else in another window until it's finished, or say forget it, if they have to show me a video first I'm not interested. Depends on the mood that day!

As long as it helps Todd run C.P., all ads are A OK with me.

Most of the ads are based on your region and (sometimes) surfing history. What I see is different than what you see. Also Adsense (owned by Google) scans the page you are reading and posts ads that they feel are relevant. Because this topic is about dating ads all I'm seeing now are the ads for dating sites. According to the stats I get these type of ads are the ones members are mostly clicking through! This could also be why these ads are showing up more often.  Companies that advertise "bid" on which sites they want their ads displayed on. Google tells them that CP has more people clicking on those types of ads and therefore more similar companies bid to have their ads placed here. The amazing thing is it happens in a thousandth of a second.  Having said that with all the ad blockers people are using the revenue this site receives from the ads is down about 2/3rds over say three years ago. I might get rid of them completely however if I do you'll hear me harping more than I normally do about site support. That might be more annoying than dating ads!

Well Todd I can assure you at almost 67 years old and happily married for over 46 years I am not surfing these ads. I along with others have said we would support a yearly payment to keep this site going. My 2 cents.

So that's why I see all these hot models wearing burlap potato sacks all the time!

The ads do not bug me.

I get Ford adds on my page

I wonder what Johnnee gets

If you clear your history, I find, the dating adds come up more often.

To ease this concern, clear your history then click on http://www.gmccanada.ca/ 50 times

My vote is,

visit  page for free and paid membership to post.

Unfortunately, that route would create too much work for Todd.

Well you can get into trouble with car topics too, like the time I was up late reading a thread on transmissions, all the girlfriend wanted to know was "who's Allison"

The ads too don't bother me but sometimes I am reminded of what I was shopping for. The thing that does bother me is that Todd has to be struggling from month to month to keep the site going. I sure would welcome a rough budget of what he needs and then for us to step forward to meet it and then what ever things get donated or swag sold could be bonus. I'll just throw a couple numbers at you guys. Don't have a clue what he needs but I've picked $500 a month. That adds up to $6000 a year. I have a gut feeling there are 5 guys on the site that would step up for 12 dollars a month which would give us $720, 20 guys could do $10 a month for $2400, 30 guys for $5 is $1800, 40 guys for $2 runs $960, and be nice if 50 could do a buck a month for $600. That totals up to $6480 with a 145 guys participating, might be abit stretched to get 145 people involved but a person always likes to set the goal high but achievable. Another suggestion would be to put on their profile that they are indeed a CP supporter but no need to show any difference whether it is a dollar or a hundred. Just my thoughts as I'd like to see the site go along smoothly and only have problems when we bring up religion and politics.

Would also suggest that payments would be made every 6 months and not monthly just for ease of people not forgetting unless they want to do something automatic. Look forward to member's response on this and for Todd if this is anywhere in the ball park.

Jerel, if you include the time I spend on here you are in the ballpark. One thing I enjoy doing is "giving back" to those who have offered their cars as features on here. I feel the feature car adds a lot to the site, keeping it fresh from month to month. I enjoy having the vote for the favorite feature car at the end of the year and giving the winner a good quality prize. One real regret was not using a different platform for the forum back in 2008. It would be nice to have software in place that would allow paid memberships for more content and no ads and other neat features. I'm pretty limited to what Activeboard can do.

LOL!!! To add to that, the reason our daughter's name (Alison) has one "L" is I didn't want people thinking I got her name from a transmission! People who know me would say "Yeah, that's just like you to name your kids after car parts..."

Wow, learn something new every day.

I just can't figure out why my work computer is trying to match me up with a Russian girl. I certainly don't browse dating sites here or at work but that's what it's hooked on.

the vote for feature car of the year has always left me sad for the owner with the lease amount of votes. They are all #1 to me

I tend to agree with you Kevin. There have been pretty much no feature cars here in the history of CP that I didn't see being something special. Sure, some of them have not been a car I'd ever own, but hearing the owners tell their stories helps me see the car as something more than just another car.
