Anyone have a well-preserved original that still has some? Here's a pic of how my '69 was done, and it looks nice enough, I just don't actually know if it's correct for our cars!
And while I'm at it, any dirt on the mats would be good too. Did all trim levels come with trunk mats? What color were the originals?

Yup, my trunk is definitely wrong - but that doesn't bother me. But the Grail car needs to be right. I hope I can replicate that finish, as I remember it being a lot smoother than the thick stuff you usually get as spatter paint today. Color aside, the texture was kind of unique. I remember playing there as a kid. We didn't have to worry about accidentally getting locked in because your brother would usually intentionally lock you in anyway!
I think my mat looks like the right one though. It was quite different on my Bonneville, so I'd imagine it's an Impala mat as a guess?

I would agree with you on the texture. Years ago, I mistakenly used something that looks similar to those 2 69's on my 65 Acadian (before I knew better). It was quite thick. The other problem with it was water ate it up. My trunk weatherstrip at that time was not perfect and a little bit of water would make a mess of the stuff.

my '69 442 had black with aqua trunk. Harmons Chevrolet always said any thing '68 up would be black with aqua (US cars). Splatter paint gives good coverage so people tend to use too much. Also let it dry for a few days and then give it a light spray of clear laquor to seal it.
If you could clean a patch and get a well-lit, sorta close up photo that'd be great! I'm sure a body shop could sort this out, but then they guessed wrong on one of mine, so better to be sure!
This picture is of my friends 69 2+2 ragtop, also untouched trunkpan. Note that on ragtops the body color would be heavily oversprayed through the top well opening first (Mayfair Maize in this case) and then the trunk speckle was applied after. I don't know if anyone repops the convertible specific decal. (the car was later painted white so you can see both yellow and white on the trunk hinge supports)
Yeah both our 2+2's are blessed with amazingly clean bodies for Canadian cars, what looks like rust in the ribs of my hardtop trunk floor is actually just red alberta dirt.
John's red coupe looks how I remember my own car, but the Maize convertible one has much bigger aqua "dots" of color, it seems. I wonder what the big variance is?
