Pricing out my car...

I used John's handy price guide information to price out the options on my GM documentation.  Makes my 2+2 a rather expensive car for the day at $5400, whereas I think my parents only paid $2800 for our Laurentian (which was a low-option demonstrator).

$489 for a 427 4 speed! I'll take one.

The engine/trans equate to about 9% of the total purchase price. In today's market they likely boost the value of the car about 50%, maybe more. Good investment.

Without the L36 and M20 this car would be scrap, so they affect the value a lot more than that in some cases!

Sad but you are right. I scrapped a 427/TH400 convert years ago which is likely my biggest car screwup in my life.

And my first thought for your car was the powertrain is likely more like 75%!
