Well, the 12 v direct wire to make it work was indeed the culprit. As simple as that! Problem solved and the motor runs great! With a bit of adjustment and timing tomorrow, it will be even better. Ill try and post a video tomorrow.

Thanks a lot for the good words! It was pretty exciting getting behind the steering wheel for the first time, as I did not even know if the engine and tranny would be as good as the guy that had them before had told me they were.. But from what I could see, hear and feel, this drivetrain was all it was sold me to be and more: super quiet, no leaks, good power, very smooth shifting, etc. Let's hope it stays that way with more driving!
Now the car is in a body shop for floor repairs and just a bit of body work, but I want to avoid a repaint, as I am trying to keep the car as original as I can. The guy who's working on it knows I want him to tackle only the essentials on the body, but get the car as solid as he possibly can, especially the undercarriage.
I will keep the board posted on the progress.
