I say encoding rather than decoding because I need to figure out what the numbers -should- be if I had the right carb. Pretty sure I have a Canadian Tire reman or similar in place of the original Q-Jet.
Here are the specifics, if someone can help me work backwards towards what carb I need, great!

I'm guessing
70 - First two digits for 66-75 2 - 66 through 69 9 - 1969 2 - Four Barrel Q-Jet 0 or 1 - Chevrolet (NOT PONTIAC, RIGHT?) Odd Digit for Manual Trans
So something like 7029203?

My Chevy Casting Numbers book shows 7029203 is for '69 350 in Chevelle, Camaro, Chevy2, and Corvette manual transmission. Doesn't show '69 427 for Passenger but 7029215 is for '69 427 Corvette manual transmission and also used for 396 manual Chevelle, Camaro and Chevy2. 7029117 is for '69 396 manual in Passenger and 7029119 is for 396 manual with AC in Passenger. These last numbers may be shared with the 427 as well.

7029201 or 7029215 is what the parts book says. However, the book I have advertised right now on CP has a very extensive carb listing and I will try to get a chance later to scour it for info.

It's not correct to say the 702 prefix has "nothing" to do with dates, but it's not worth arguing. I presume it was a batch or cast number that they ran out of in in the mid 70s and changed it. Until then it was 702, that's all.
I hadn't thought of looking in the parts book because I didn't know that number on the side of the QJet was actually the parts number! Once SD396 gave me the group number I pulled out the catalog and it turns out years ago I had already underlined it for myself
My Dec 1972 parts book (Group 3.725 Rochester carburetors) shows 7029215. Go to the forward part of the book with all the illustrations.
Actually, if you have a 1969 Pontiac & Acadian Chassis / Shop Manual, it should show the various carburetor #'s for the various applications in the "Specifications" section in the back of the book. In my 1970 Manual, they're on page 11.

Even if the parts book were right, everyone is going to EXPECT a 7029215 so I guess that's what I look for.
Sadly, that carb is shared with 1969 Corvette 427 as well, and people are offering a grand on CorvetteForum for cores!

I would like to add this little preface to my post. I dont want to derail your thread Dave. Im not in any particular hurry with my cars. But if information on my carburetters is right there for the taking while you guys are investigating Daves carbs- anyone out there please feel free to let me know. But Im not looking for anyone to go to any lengths to answer my question here or to take focus off of Daves search which is more urgent. Thanks
Im following this thread with interest. When everybody figures this out, would it be possible to also tell me what codes I should be looking for re my 1967 2+2 cars with L36 and M20?
Blue coupe: cowl tag says March 29 and GM Canada docs have production date April 4 67
Red convert: cowl tag says May 18 and GM Canada docs have production date May 24 67
I guess since these carbs would also be correct for 1967 Corvette, I shouldnt expect them to be any cheaper or easier to find than Daves 69? Thank you much!
