Old 1969Pontiac.com website questions

These were on my 'unanswered' section, thought I'd raise them here.  The A: is my guess, but I might be wrong.

---

Q: Was reverb available in 1969 Canadian Pontiacs?

A: John?

Q: If you ordered both speed warning and lamp warning group, was there a cluster with both?

A: The face is available only with or without speed warning but no mention of warning lamps.  The control head has three variants - miles only, lamp warning, lamp AND speed warning.  Thus I cannot see a speedo head with Speed Warning that does not also gave Lamp Warning.

Q: Was there a door ajar lamp available for taxis?

A: Yes, it's installation is described in the assembly manual.

That 69 2+2 convertible that was just listed on Kijiji shows a reverb switch.

Which one? The green one just has a top switch so far as I can see from the photos?

No reverb on Canadian ponchos in 69

You could order speedminder and warning light option together on the same car. My 2+2 has them.

My mistake. The 2+2 convertible listed for sale doesn't have reverb. The 69 427 Parisienne convertible that a friend of mine told me about does. Photo:

Hmmm, reverb in a 69 would be news to me as well. But over 50 years a lof of things can happen.

Any other details on the car? Is this a new 427 1969 convertible that we haven't seen yet?

That's a 68 & prior reverb switch.   But in 68's, it would be up just below the dash pad, this one looks like it's below the entire dash, by the tissue dispenser.

Yup, that's a 68 & prior reverb switch that someone has put in a 69. A 69 reverb switch is a rocker switch up in the instrument surround, beside the defog, power top or power antenna switch.

Ha! That used to be my favorite trivia question. Might still be!

John (North) says it's bounded at 3 by the size of the dash cluster. I haven't actually looked, and being American, won't take his word for it so I'm not sure. But so far as we can guess there's no way to order a 4-switch car:

Power Top
Fan Forced Astro Ventillation (USA) [Edit: proper name is Power Flow]
Power Antenna (USA)
Power Tailgate
Reverb (USA)
Defog (Canada)

..plus the Door Ajar option light goes in slot 1.

Further, I believe John said the slots are assigned by function, not left to right like I assumed. I guess that could lead to gaps and weird layouts in some degenerate cases though.

Why not a US Convertible with Power Flow, power antenna, reverb, and a top? That seems like four. What am I overlooking?

The maroon 70 2+2 hdtp in Ontario that occasionally shows up there has the Power Flow Ventilation.     It's a High / Low rocker switch marked "Air".

Was that new for 70 in Canada or was Power Flow (or whatever) seen on 69s at all?

Edit: To answer my own question, I spotted a number of parts like the wiring harness that are listed to 70- only

You guys are mixing terms up, Astro ventilation was the name given to all cars without vent windows, it referred to having dash vents. These upper vents were not connected to the heater-defrost blower system so like vent windows themselves you only had airflow when the car was moving fast enough.

Power flow ventilation was an option that added a blower on each upper vent so you could have airflow through the upper vents while the car wasnt moving.

On US cars you couldnt order both reverb and power flow (the order book states this as a restriction). This was because both switches occupied the same switch position. Youd think theyd allow both if there werent two other switch options also ordered but I guess they didnt want to complicate assembly line instructions. And order restrictions.

Reverb wasn't offered in 69 on Canadian Pontiacs but perhaps it was offered in 70. I can't imagine someone back then went and ordered all the parts for a US pontiac and installed the option. Also since Chevy cowls are different the power flow system from a Catalina might not even fit a canadian car?

Reverb was no longer an option in 1970. Interesting comment about the different cowls of the US & Cdn Pontiacs and the possibility of the power flow system from a US car not fitting into a Cdn car. I hadn't thought of that.

I can see a couple dimples on the cowl of my cars where the bolts of the system would poke through, and I'd been after the owner of the maroon car for photo's but never got anything.

I fixed the post above... sorry, I've never seen a Power Flow car nor an ad for it, I'll have to look at a US brochure, it's all new to me.    All I know is if you drive in Ontario for 10 hours with the dash vent open your hair will be full of little rocks and debris because it's unfiltered!

Not to pick a fight, but when you say "This was because" does it say anywhere that the switch position collision is the reason for the constraint?  Or is that just the logical conclusion?  It makes perfect sense, I'm just wondering if it's a conclusion or a given.

The Canadian assembly manual, unlike the US, does not seem to assign switches to specific slots.  So far as I've seen, and I do not claim to have made any great investigation, is that they just show you how to punch out the "next one over" and always illustrate the switch going into position 2, regardless of feature.  But Canada is a 10% case, they might have done things different on the Pontiac lines.
