Tesla's losses grow on Model 3 delays - Tesla's lofty aims come as company burns through its cash at a fast rate

"Musk is a masterful marketer, and the red ink may not stem investors' excitement.

The company's shares jumped three per cent to close at $345 US after SpaceX successfully launched its Falcon Heavy rocket on Tuesday with Musk's cherry red Roadster as its cargo.

The convertible, with a dummy in a space suit at its wheel, is now heading toward an asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Tesla's shares are also in the stratosphere, up eight per cent from the start of this year.

While Tesla's true believers love these stunts, some analysts are questioning whether Musk should be spending more time fixing Tesla's woes.

Clement Thibault, a senior analyst with the website Investing.com, grumbled about Musk's recent fundraising efforts for The Boring Co., his new tunnel-drilling company.

"He appears to be more eager to sell hats and flamethrowers rather than meeting previously stated production targets for Tesla vehicles," Thibault wrote in a note to investors."

I wouldn't bet against Elon Musk. Many have laughed and criticized only to be asking themselves later "how the hell did he pull that off?"

A friend of mine was working at a stamping plant in London (Ont.) . They are the only plant in North America that does hot stamping and they are doing Model 3 parts. Nothing but problems. In fact they laid him off over a month ago while they try to sort out all the issues with the stamping process.

I watched this video a few months ago...

https://www.ted.com/talks/elon_musk_the_future_we_re_building_and_boring

It's quite interesting.

Elon Musk talks about several futuristic projects like space travel, tunnels under cities, solar panels that look like regular shingles etc.

He's a great salesman and he does a good job of making all these things sound like they're right around the corner.

He doesn't say much about the cars except that driverless cars will be here very soon.

I think the Tesla cars could turn a profit on there own, but maybe not if the company is spending billions on a space program.

When you look at the number of parts in a new car and the technology, you can understand why a startup car manufacturer would have growing pains in our "just in time" world. Tesla may or may not be successful, but I think electric cars could easily explode in numbers. All you need is a better battery, twice as powerful as available now and rechargeable on the road in 5 minutes. Musk may invent that? Or someone else will.

You eliminate the internal combustion motor, exhaust, oil change, ignition problems, etc. Then all that needs to happen is a new road tax on car electricity......................

Musk is certainly doing things that for profit companies choose not to tackle. For profit companies R&D stuff for a profit, not for the good of people. If they could find a way to prevent or cure cancer using aspirin, would that happen? Or is the solution not profitable enough?
