Feb.16th. was the day of fire and total loss of garage. was looking thru some old pictures, & I still miss the Torpedo Back, had my heart and sole in that ride! found some of the 64 Catalina, don't miss that one as much & heard it's for sale again in the Lindsay area. Cutlass was getting to be a good car after fixing a few issues but got 'fried with the 52!!!  lets hope the wagon turns out to be just as good as the 64 Impala '9 er"IMG_1334.JPGPicture 172.jpgPicture 077.jpgIMG_1118.JPGIMG_1113.JPG

Wow, almost a year already. It's great to see you didn't give up and got right back on the horse(power).

When you first told us about this terrible fire everyone who knew you felt the pain. Out of these ashes you have built the greatest home for your new collection. Great pictures Pete and great memories too.

I was astonished to see a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 KR convertible (they said 1 of 7) that was equally consumed by fire, actually get brought back from the ashes. Now it was a HUGE task to restore it and if it weren't so rare it would have just been left.

Link:

It is really gruesome, but it got restored. I would think the heat would do so much damage, even to the engine. What can I say?

Pete, you've pulled off an amazing rebound.
As a fellow victim of a vehicle fire it's important that we continue on with life and hobbies.

Yes Pete, you did recover and moved on to other interesting cars.

Seeing those pictures a year later still makes me cringe.

Well I think it takes near that time to sort of get over it but I'm glad to see how nice a shop and the pair of cars you have found as replacements. We had a fire go through our city a few years ago and we lost 240 houses and I know it was tough for many of my friends. A year or two later when I had rebuilt their house and like in your case it was even nicer than their original it softened the pain and they were even further ahead than before. Hope you will be able to feel that way at some point too.

Yes, I miss seeing the T-back and Cutlass also, but you seem to have bounced back!

Hey Pete, just out of curiosity, do you have any physical keepsakes/reminders of the fire hanging up in the new shop?

Yes I salvaged & restored the bench vise,1 sledge hammer [same] and a (9/16 box end wrench [ still all rusty] hanging on the wall. I spoke to the wrecking yard that eventually got both cars, he salvaged the frame out of Cutlass. Both cars ,the rear ends were "SEIZED" Tremic 5 speed was taken out of Poncho but needs complete brgs & seals, & not sure if case is warped!! Both engines were "pooched" as the intake manifolds on both melted & aluminum flowed into engine!!
