Trim Ring School

Thought I'd keep this separate from the wheels.  For 1969 I see

3901708, 67-71 "ALL WITH RALLY WHEELS ATTACHES WITH 4 CLIPS"
and
9796696, 69-71 "ALL WITH RALLY WHEELS ATTACHES TO WHEEL WITH 16 SERRATED TEETH"

That's the first instance I can think of where the book lists two parts for the same application.  The rings I have seem to be the latter, with 16 teeth.

But why are both listed, am I reading it wrong?

For my 70 2+2's, they have different rings. My convertible has the 4 clip type (and an elliptical valve stem hole) and my hardtop, built only a week or so later has the 16 tooth type (and an oval valve stem hole).

When I upgraded my convertible to 7" wide wheels, the 4 clip type trim rings just wouldn't go on, as the steel ring inside the trim rings just wouldn't shrink the necessary amount.

Thats very interesting .  The clip style was always a pain in the chevrolet rims .  Love the multi tooth style

The 4-clip style rings sure suck when the clip goes exactly where the wheel weight is.

I also have a couple different types of the 16 tooth version. Some have straight teeth, others have zig-zag teeth (which I think are later). The zig-zag teeth ones won't go on my Pontiac Ralley II wheels, they're just a hair too big. I'm not sure about the chevy ralley wheels.
