I was looking for body mount hardware, and in the "tub of mystery" I organized some important looking fasteners into groups. Can anyone help me flesh out or correct the list?
I know what most of them are, will reply tonight when I'm on my PC.
But quickly:
A. looks like the plugs in the trunk to access bumper mount bolts.
B. Left 2 are radiator to frame horn bolts (don't lose the little speed nuts, you'll need those). Right 2 with the square nuts are the firewall to frame bolts. Square nuts sit inside the thing that extends forward and down from the firewall.
So none of them are body bolts? I need to mount my body back to my frame and all I'm missing are (a) mounts, (b) bolts, (c) knowledge of what either look like!
I've got the page from the Impala assembly manual so I can see where they go, and I can see that the Convertible takes one extra. I'm sure I'll be able to find the mounts, but what about the bolts I wonder? I can probably go by part number and resolve that, worst case.
I should have all the info you need, but it'll take me a bit of rummaging through the garage to find it. As indicated, I swapped the frame under my 70 Parisienne, by disassembling a 69 2+2 and sliding it's frame under the 70.
I ordered the body mount kit from Impala Bob's, as well as the radiator support bushings & bolt kit. The bolt kit for the radiator support was basically what anyone could have bought at Home Depot. I re-used all the correct bolts, except behind the rear tires as they just weren't long enough.
I think the 2 bolts with the square nuts in B are for the firewall (Location 1 in the drawing). And the 2 in D sure look like the bolts for just ahead of the rear tires (Location 4 in the drawing), but I'd like to get a better look at the washer, and it's attached rubber.
Unfortunately when I disassembled the 69 2+2 I didn't take much care on labeling the bushings or bolts. I went back later and rounded everything up. However, when I disassembled the 70 Parisienne to pull its chassis out, I took much better care. I also parted out a 70 Impala a couple years ago, and I think I've got some of its stuff as well. Attached is a drawing, I'm sure it was provided by one of our members.
I've got a few things on my plate, but can help you out by the weekend.
FYI - Locations 2, 3 & 5 (3 is convertible only, and 5 is convertible & station wagon) the bushing looks basically just like a hockey puck, and had a portion extending down to stick into the hole in the frame. These are not provided in a body mount kit.
I ordered that Impala Convertible body mount kit as it includes all of the hardware for a few dollars more.
I see Number 9 in the assembly manual picture above has a square nut... not related to my pictured part, is it?
Yes, I'd say the square nuts on the bolts on the right side of B are the square nuts as in Number 9 in the drawing. I can't remember the exact size, but they're better part of 1" across.
I found everything in the garage, I'll see if I can post photos in the next few days. Yes, the Number 9 square nuts (for position 1) are 1".
I've got the rad support bolts, position 1 bolts (same length as position 7), and position 6 bolts (same length as position 4). I've also got a complete set of old bushings, as well as a pretty much complete set of new bushings. The only bushings I needed to reuse were the bottom bushings for position 4.
(somehow on the Parisienne, when I crawled under it a year or so after doing the car, the bolt for position 4 on the passenger side was missing, so I had to replace it and the bottom bushing)
Ok, I finally got to sorting through the leftover body mounts I had, and tried to take photo's that'll make sense.
The #'s in the photo's correspond to the locations shown in the drawing I posted 3 or 4 days ago. Here we go:
Radiator Support (not shown on drawing)
Note the speed nut on the bolt. The bolts come up from the bottom, and the speed nuts hold the bolt in place until the radiator support is installed and the top cushion, washer & nut. Some people put the bolts down to make it easier, but I believe the assembly manual will show the bolts going up. I didn't measure the length of the bolt, but looks like it's about 3-3/8".
Position 1 (at firewall)
Bolt is 2-7/8" long, with square nut (nut is 1" across).
Upper cushion part # 3906746
Lower cushion part # 3906747
Position 2 (and Position 3 for convertible)
part # 3906748. NO BOLT.
Position 4
This is where you may run into problems.
Bolt is 2-3/8" long
Top cushion part # 3926943 NOTHING in the body mount kit resembled this mount, so I used from the kit what I could, as it sits in a rectangular hole in the chassis.
Bottom cushion part # 3939118 NOTHING in the body mount kit resembled this, so I re-used what I had.
Position 6
Bolt is 2-3/8" long
Top cushion part # 3906749
Bottom cushion part # 3906747
Position 7
Bolt is 2-7/8" long
Top cushion part # 3926945 (notice is smaller than Position 6)
Bottom cushion part # 3868996 (again smaller than Position 6)
