Any ideas on the best way to get a transmission from Saskatchewan to South Western Ontario

I am buying a rescue project to play with.

A twin of one of my other cars.

Sorry not a Canadian Poncho.

This 30 year old car was spared from our winters because it was built up by a father and son drag race team.

It sat in a garage for years and sold last year for the price of the performance parts.

I almost bought it but the racing 5-speed made the car just too expensive.

That now have been stripped along with all the over priced racing performance stuff.

I have almost all the stock parts this car needs in my shop.

Rad, body parts, drive shaft and all kinds of junk from past parts cars.

The OE equipped engine has been on my stand since 2011 just waiting for something to do.

The problem is that the transmission that I need is excusive for only two model years and only the V8 sport model.

Mr Henry Ford, would not approve hmm

Another one could be made to work but you need to be a better man then me to do that wink

www.car-part.com

lists a wrecker in Saskatchewan that actually has 2 !

The only two listed in Canada.

I don't think Greyhound would do this.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance smile

I've shipped a transmission a couple times using the trucking company "Consolidated FastFrate". Both times the shipper just strapped it to a pallet, and delivered it to the Consolidated FastFrate warehouse. First time was to the warehouse in Montreal, and the second time to their warehouse in Winnipeg. Had them shipped to Calgary, and I picked the tranny's up at the Consolidated FastFrate warehouse here in Calgary.

Ask the junk yard if they'd ship on a pallet to a business address? I did one a while ago from NB to Bridgewater for $35. They would only ship to a business address.

In the highest gear it has to get the best mileage.

If Markus gets it to me, I can get it to Kevin's car.

Probably not in your time line but I'm driving from B.C. to Quebec in early June. Just going in a car and haven't really finalized a route yet but at some point should have room as I'm driving solo.

Oh, are we doing reviews now? If so, I'll be reviewing our "guest" who just gave me a negative ("weird dude in front of computer all day...")

Thanks guys,

There will be no solid time line on this car.

I brought the car home today.

001a.jpg004a.jpg

Awesome 3 hour cruize home, through beautiful Rural Ontario.

13.5 L/100 kms !

We should all be forced to take the back roads once in a while.

I have decided to contact a local guy who drag races these cars to see if he might be interested.

He has been known to throw funny looking orange motors in these cars

If I rebuild it, I will need the transmission.

Tomorrow, I will call the wrecker in Saskatchewan and see about their shipping options.

But, I'm thinking that if it shows up at Carl's house, I just might visit there myself

Not sure if helps at all. Going from Vancouver to Winnipeg mid April. If it would fit in the trunk of a Lincoln Town Car (Hello JD, sorry Carl) Id be only too glad to fetch it and leave it in Winnipeg.

Just let me know

Thanks to Robert M and Carl Stevenson, for your offers of help, moving the transmission.

Southside Auto Wreckers in Weyburn, Saskatchewan came up with the best idea.

They ship with Day & Ross,

$125 with two conditions,

1, if I could wait until the next regular truck shipment

2, If I could pick up at their terminal in Windsor, two hours from me.

Windsor was the destination of the rest of the shipment.

As much as I love driving through Northern Ontario, I said ship it !

It arrived today.

Wish I had my dash cam on for the trip.

Passed a very happy man, in a Black Explorer, with a fresh orange big block on his trailer.

I will make it to the centre of Canada some day !

Again guys thanks for the offers.

My daughter took the pic from the upstairs bedroom window just after I got back.

It was her way of sidetracking the trouble she was in for skipping school biggrin
