May 2018 Feature Car

For May I am happy to feature James Russell's beautiful 1966 Acadian Canso. James and his dad Jim took what was meant to be a parts car and transformed it into a reliable daily driver that James can be truly proud of. You can view the complete build thread here: http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t63408076/4-doors-getting-a-face-lift/

James tells us a little more about the car:

We found the car a few doors down from our property at 100 Mile House. It was originally intended to be a parts car for my dad’s 66, but once we got it home and cleaned it we discovered it was too nice to part out.

It had a 230, but we found an original rebuilt 194 that we bought and put in.

The interior is all original and near mint.

We started fixing it up, but as usual it got put on the backburner for a while. Once the shop in the back was built it began to receive more attention.

We travelled to swap meets all over the island looking for parts for my car, as dad had taken many of the parts for his own!

After four years, it is finally insured and I drove it for the first time (legally).

Dad and I are taking it to my grandfather's for a tune-up.

Future plans are to split the manifold and put disc brakes on. It will be nice to have the oldest car in the school parking lot.

James Russell

Beauty James. No computer needed to do a tune or figure out whats wrong and stands out nicely in a. crowd. Lots of room on a 4 door too plus a trunk. Looks great, my first car I bought was a 61 valiant 4 door blue too with a 3 speed on the floo, yours is much nicer.

I commend your excellent judgment in building the 66 and not parting it. Sweet little time machine and thank you for saving it. Now its time to cruise and enjoy. Cheers.

Hi James

It is nice to see the finished product of the swap meet that I met you at last May. You and your father have done a job on that beauty that you can both be proud of. Hope that you enjoy cruising in it for years to come.

Congratulations James on a job well done. Have really enjoyed following your build thread. That guy cleaning up after you is a pretty talented fellow too. Enjoy and hope to catch up to you again sometime.

Nice save, taking a parts car and putting it back on the road.  It's a beautiful thing!

And congrats on the feature car status!  Don't forget to order a calendar from Todd for next year!  wink
